Under Your Spell Again
The Buckaroos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've got me under your spell again
Sayin' those things again
Makin' me believe that you're just mine
You've got me dreamin' those dreams again
Thinkin' those things again
I've gotta take you back just one more time

I swore the last time that you let me down
That I wouldn't see you if you came around
But I can't tell my heart what's right or wrong
And I've been so lonely since you've been gone

You've got me under your spell again
Sayin' those things again
Makin' me believe that you're just mine
You've got me dreamin' those dreams again
Thinkin' those things again
I've gotta take you back just one more time

Well, everybody tells me that I'm a fool
That I never should have put my faith in you
And way down deep inside I guess I know it's true
But no one else can make me feel the way you do

You've got me under your spell again
Sayin' those things again
Makin' me believe that you're just mine
You've got me dreamin' those dreams again

Thinkin' those things again
I've gotta take you back just one more time

Overall Meaning

The Buckaroos' song "Under Your Spell Again" tells the story of a person who finds themselves entranced by a former lover, despite knowing that staying with them is not the best choice. The opening lines of the song, "You've got me under your spell again, saying those things again, making me believe that you're just mine" express this feeling of being helplessly drawn to someone who they know may not have good intentions.

The singer goes on to admit that they previously promised themselves they wouldn't return to this person after being let down, but they cannot deny the hold their lover has over them. They acknowledge that others have warned them against staying with this person but cannot resist the feelings they have when they are together. The repeated chorus emphasizes this sense of being under a spell, with both the words and the melody working together to convey the idea of being pulled in and unable to resist.

Overall, the song can be seen as a reflection on the complexity of human relationships and the powerful emotions they can evoke. Despite knowing that staying with someone may not be wise, the heart can sometimes override the head, leading to difficult and sometimes painful choices.

@@geofftipton6210 No, I worked for Buck and the Owens family at KNIX, Phoenix. A station he owned for nearly 31 years. Sold it in 1999.

Buck’s first breakthrough hit, written by Buck and Dusty Rhodes. My best memory of Buck is from the big Capitol Records country show at the sold out Hollywood Bowl more years ago than I like to think about (1968). Buck & The Buckaroos were the grand finale act of the star studded two halves show. Part way into his third song Buck stopped the band and through the microphone, for the whole crowd to hear, calmly told the sound man to quit adjusting the volumes of the various instruments. Buck told the guy ‘this is Bakersfield style country and no the steel guitar isn’t too loud’. The crowd went wild. Must have inspired Buck because he stayed on way past the length of a normal set singing requests shouted out by fans. May we see him again where the soul of man never dies. Thanks for this post.
