I See The Moon
The C.R.S. Players Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am a city
Infested with tourists
Unwanted residents
Inside a concrete forest
Unrest, hitmen
The future is the end
Black holes, incense
The universe is cleansed...

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of the song, "I am a city, Infested with tourists, Unwanted residents," set up a bleak and almost dystopian mood. The singer is describing their city as overrun with people who neither belong nor are welcome. The mention of "unwanted residents" implies that people living in the city are struggling to find a place to call home, and are being pushed out by tourists or others who do not have a long-term stake in the area. This "concrete forest" is devoid of natural beauty and has become crowded and inhospitable to those who reside there.

The second half of the verse is equally dark, with references to "unrest," "hitmen," and "the future is the end." These phrases suggest an atmosphere of danger and uncertainty, where violence and chaos are commonplace. The mention of "black holes" and "incense" could be symbolic, with black holes representing a void or emptiness that pervades the city, and incense representing a desperate attempt to find some sense of spirituality or purpose in a world that seems devoid of meaning.

Taken as a whole, the lyrics paint a picture of a city gone wrong, where the darkness has gripped the hearts of its inhabitants and turned it into a place of fear and despair.

I see a bad moon a-rising
I see trouble on the way
I see earthquakes and lightnin'
I see bad times today
Don't go 'round tonight
It's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
I hear hurricanes a-blowing
I know the end is coming soon
I fear rivers over flowing
I hear the voice of rage and ruin
Don't go 'round tonight
It's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
I hope you got your things together
I hope you are quite prepared to die
Look's like we're in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye
Oh don't go 'round tonight
It's bound to take your life
There's a bad moon on the rise
There's a bad moon on the rise

This song brings me memories of driving to “secret spots” with my mom, dog and step father to go camping. He suffered terribly with alcoholism and eventually it took his life but there were times when everything felt good and you could tell he felt free. We’d listen to CCR and Johnny Cash the whole way with the windows down.

My dad suffered from alcoholism too but he was a good guy. Just a coping mechanism for a lot of the bullshit he had to go through in life. This song brings to mind the days when my father and I would drive to our family's ranch out in the country on the weekends. He'd blast CCR, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and other bands from his time along the way and I savored the time together. I left home a few years back and haven't remained in contact with him. I decided to stop by for Christmas and gifted him an expensive bottle of brandy and we talked about those trips to the ranch jamming out to his favorite songs.
