Breaking Up
The Caress Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's no more mascara marks on your mattress
Because you used that new detergent
She won't be coming over anymore

You held the camera for your delicate princess
Because you knew just how to shoot her
She won't be coming over anymore
Breaking up is such a pain in the heart

You went at each other all tongs and hammers
Because your love was blood and thunder
She won't be coming over anymore

You were sparring partners with weapons and armour
Caught in love that was a constant battle
But she won't be coming anymore

Breaking up is such a pain in the heart

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Caress's song "Breaking Up" depict the aftermath and emotional turmoil of a breakup between two individuals. The first verse describes the physical absence of the partner, symbolized by the lack of mascara marks on the mattress due to the use of new detergent. This detail signifies the end of the intimate moments shared in the bed, suggesting a finality to the relationship. The singer acknowledges that the partner will not be coming over anymore, indicating a sense of loss and acceptance of the breakup.

In the next verse, the lyrics delve into the dynamics of the relationship, portraying the singer's role in capturing moments of their partner like a delicate princess through a camera lens. The imagery of photography suggests a sense of care and admiration for the partner, but it also highlights a certain distance that now exists between them. The repeated refrain that she won't be coming over anymore reinforces the finality of the breakup, emphasizing the loneliness and void left in the singer's life.

The third verse delves into the intensity of the love shared between the two individuals, described as "blood and thunder." The metaphorical language evokes a sense of passion and conflict that characterized their relationship. The usage of "tongs and hammers" symbolizes the heated arguments and clashes that took place between them. Despite the fierce and tumultuous nature of their love, the singer acknowledges that the partner will not be returning, signifying the end of this intense connection.

Lastly, the lyrics conclude with the poignant realization that breaking up is a painful experience that affects the heart deeply. The repetition of this sentiment emphasizes the emotional impact of the separation and the lingering feelings of hurt and loss. Overall, the song portrays the complexities and emotional toll of a breakup, capturing the bittersweet memories and struggles of letting go of a once-close connection.

Are these youtube vids also available as a podcast? If so can someone give me the title of it?

Frumess

@DrAirlift Yes! glad you did. Thank you for your listener support. I appreciate the constructive criticism - to explain my dilemma, I have a bunch of shows that I am trying to just keep under the brand of my last name "Frumess." So they are all Frumess shows. The Hungry Pizza End is just the name graphic on the software I use. That was a joke because Peter played in Samhain which has a song called "The Hungry End." The show is called Pizza Punk. The Misfits show is "Streaming Evilive" - But on the podcasts its all Frumess and each episode is labeled respectively. Sorry for the confusion, just makes sense in my head haha.

DrAirlift

@Frumess awesome ! Found it and following on spotify now. I drive a lot for work so the audio only is going to be clutch. Wanted to say absolutely love love the channel man. Been Misfits and Danzig fan for 30+ years now. My only constructive criticism would be to streamline the names somehow. I was looking up they came from lodi. The hungry pizza end and now got that its Frumess (last name?) I think a Danzig related name would be super helpful and appropriate but you are blowing up regardless so I'll shut it lol

Frumess

If you have additional trouble lmk and I will help you further.

What I love about Doyle is that despite being a member of the band, I think he’s actually part of the fandom just like we all are, in a way that doesn’t apply to Jerry or Glenn

Frumess

Damien and London May as well.

Frumess

Steve Zing and Eerie too. They were all the first generation of Fiends!

DrAirlift

This ruled. Have you ever covered the breakup of the original Danzig lineup? That be a great one. I always wondered why Danzig for instance could fall out with London may like 3 times and he was always invited back to samhain reunions. But he would never invite eerie which implies it was a really bad falling out
