Finale
The Cast Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now you are here
Again, beside me
Now, I can die in peace
For now my life is blessed

You will live papa, you're going to live!
It's too soon to ever say goodbye
Yes, Cosette
Forbid me now to die
I'll obey I will try

On this page
I write my last confession
Read it well
When I, at last, am sleeping
It's the story
Of those who always loved you

Your mother gave her life for you and gave you to my keeping

Come with me
Where chains will never bind you
All your grief
At last, at last, behind you
Lord in Heaven
Look down on him in mercy

Forgive me all my trespasses and take me to Your glory

Take my hand
And lead me to salvation
Take my love
For love is everlasting

And remember The truth that once was spoken

To love another person is to see the face of God!

Do you hear the people sing?
Lost in the valley of the night
It is the music of a people
Who are climbing to the light

For the wretched of the Earth
There is a flame that never dies
Even the darkest night will end
And the sun will rise

They will live again in freedom
In the garden of the Lord
They will walk behind the ploughshare
They will put away the sword

The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes!

Aah, aah, aah
Tomorrow comes!

Overall Meaning

The Cast's song Finale is a powerful and emotional piece that serves as the grand culmination of the musical Les Miserables. The song begins with a reflective tone as the character Jean Valjean, played by Colm Wilkinson, expresses his gratitude to be near his daughter Cosette. He says that he can now "die in peace" since his life is blessed with the presence of his daughter. However, Cosette begs her father not to die, assuring him that he will live. Jean Valjean agrees to do his best to hold on to life for his daughter's sake.

The song then transitions into a heartfelt confession from Jean Valjean. He writes a letter confessing his story and the love he has for those around him. Valjean speaks of Cosette's mother, who gave her life for her daughter and entrusted her to Valjean's care. Valjean then requests forgiveness for his trespasses and asks to be taken to heaven. The next verse is a plea for salvation and the embrace of eternal love.

The song then swells with the chorus of "Do you hear the people sing?" The phrase serves as a rallying cry for the oppressed and marginalized. It represents a hope for a better future, where people can live freely without the chains of injustice. The song ends with a triumphant tone, promising that "tomorrow comes" with its fresh opportunities and possibilities. Overall, Finale is a beautiful and moving song that highlights the themes of hope, love, and redemption in the Les Miserables story.

@Steve ASMR you simply don't get why it it's poorly written and that's cause you have a simple mind.

Get an education in literature and you will understand why the first 4 seasons are so different from the final few that written by a completely different staff.

Everybody I know hated the final seasons.

We still make fun of them till this day, easily the most laughably cringey shit I've ever seen.

It was like a bad cartoon.

Only a fool could possibly find it "real" or entertaining.

Some of the laziest writing in history.

I feel like Shanola should have conducted this interview. She seems like the life blood of this cast and I think she would have asked some amazing questions.
