As an aside, since I don't know when your mum and cat passed, I just want to mention that it struck me as odd your cat was diagnosed with cancer and wondered if that is what your mum passed from as well? My mum passed away and two weeks later, our cat stopped eating, started dripping water from her mouth and in no time, was diagnosed with cancer. She passed away 11 months later in my arms. There were three of us at least in our household, and our cat used to be mostly with me. Yet, she could not overcome my mum's departure and followed her.

I had a cat who couldn’t care less about me but loved my wife. Every day I knew she’d be home from work in sixty seconds because the cat would meow and jump to the window. I started observing and her car wouldn’t make it around the corner yet before his behavior. Pretty incredible.

The anime "My Roommate Is A Cat" is a must for any cat owner. The way they show the separation between a humans interpretation of a cats actions and what the cat is actually thinking is brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is my favorite anime of all! One because of the POV shift between the MC and the cat and two because it highlights important issues of mental wellbeing. Besides that it is a relaxing anime with humor and just enough angst to get the plot going and evolve. Worth watching!

I have literally had times when one of our cats thought everyone had left the house and started crying/caterwauling because he couldn’t find anybody, so loudly it echoed through our little house. Then when I would call out enough for him to follow my voice upstairs, he would hurry up and jump on the bed meowing nonstop like “Do you know how SCARED I was?!”

My older cat always fights with his younger brother but when the little guy is napping, the older guy walks around the house meowing. I'll call out to him and he'll come to me for a few minutes but he wants his baby brother

@mitalee samant so sad. My son moved out and took one of our 4 cats but not his cat as he was very bonded to Oz our other son’s cat. Oz died and Monty went around the house looking for Oz for weeks. MoMo that left with my other son had no issues adapting to his new home with my son. His room mates all loved him as he is a Maine Coon and very friendly. Unfortunately one of the roommates let him out ( he was an indoor cat) my son was devastated. We put up signs and contacts the cat rescues in the area. The vet told us to leave his litter box, food and water dish in the garage and leave the door open enough for him to get in. We searched endlessly for a week. I went outside everyday shaking the treat bag and calling his name. Vet said he could smell his litter box , his own scent from a far distance and amazingly he came back on his own the first night after we tried it! He was in the garage eating when my son got up to go to work!! He was full of burrs and we combed and washed him. They make sure he always wears his collar and a bell and his tags so if he gets out again and someone finds him they have a way to get him to my son. Good luck, hope your cat finds his way home.

I adopted a 2 1/2 yr. old female cat. She seemed lonely even though I was home all day. She is really laid back & only plays a little. A week later, I went back to the shelter & got her a 6 month old kitten to keep her company. Best thing that I did. They are best buds & keep me on my toes & laughing.

Funny thing about the imprinting. I had a cat and two prairie dogs. I got a kitten to keep the older cat company. The kitten and prairie dogs formed such a strong bond that when I had to rehome the kitten to my sister, she told me he acted like a prairie dog for weeks. He was a prairie dog in his mind! 🤣

As someone who's raised "bottle babies," I can absolutely confirm them having more human aspects. One of my cats, when she was a handful of months old, every morning, would come and sit in front of my oven and look at herself in the reflective glass surface. She would then look at me and meow, then back and meow. This would carry on for 5 to 15 minutes every day for months. I guess she finally figured out that she wasn't a human and accepted it.

My cat is a velcro cat and I've always wondered why she hates other cats so much but learning about the bottle baby thing made so much sense to me. because she's a rescue she was probably bottle fed and babied by humans as a kitten and didnt have much exposure to other cats until she was placed in a foster home where she probably didn't get babied as much and she was around tons of other animals and it was probably complete chaos for her so she acted out. we were told she was "bad" when we adopted her but shes the sweetest little baby, shes 12 now but she still acts like a kitten for us, we can't get other pets though or she will act out and it makes so much sense after watching your videos.

I adopted my cat from a vet that kept her mother in the barn and had another litter. She came to me scared and became my buddy quickly. We had an older cat when we got her but since he's been gone 10 years now, she doesn't seem to get along with any other animals. She prefers to be by my side as much as possible. I'm taking in another cat in 2 weeks. He'll be with us about a year and then going back to my daughter's house. He's a Persian and my daughter is concerned about the hair around her newborn.

My female cat has a 'special meow' for when my husband goes out of the house...it's a meow she does only when she misses him or is looking for him, she is very attached to him.

One of ours does that when my 10 yo goes to school. She's always attached to him so whenever he leaves she goes around meowing in a different way, looking for him. Also with the DST change last year I was all "WTF girl it's still an hour til kiddo time", because she was extra panic/demanding meowing for him, after a few days I realized it was the time he'd usually be home before the time change. ;w;

This is going to be me in the middle of October. I'm about to leave for a three month trip to Japan and it's going to be absolutely soul crushing leaving my two cats behind. Luckily, they will be staying with my parents, but I know deep down inside that they will be missing me as much as I'll be missing them.

Things got scratched , 1 cat had gained serious weight and my other cat had lost hair on the belly both sides and back feet , prob from too much lickin' .

Thank you Jackson for breaking kitty myths! My cats come running to see me when I get home-like dogs- and sleep on my head and snuggle and are so affectionate. But I don't want that all the time, so I love that they can just chill. My first cat was extremely stand-offish, wouldn't come out from under the couch, let you come near him, but after gentle and constant love and care, he is the cat that everyone loves when they come over. My other one is that velcro kitty, but they also have each other. It's just about knowing what they want and need and respecting them. Dogs give loyalty, cats demand respect lol

I ended up in the hospital for two weeks, my little cat was being fed and taken care of by my mom and brothers. The day I came back home she just sat there looking at me. She sniffed me for a few minutes, recognized my voice and cuddled up on my lap. When I had to get up she was gently moving out of the way, seems she knew I had a wound that was healing. I moved to Canada when she was 18 years, I could not take her with me and it broke my heart. My mom said she was actually content in her house as long as she could sleep on my old sweater. She passed away three weeks before I came over for a visit. I always think fondly of her, she was a rescue, came in my life when I moved into my apartment and a buddy of mine said he had a housewarming gift.

I can totally relate to this. In the mid-nineties, I had a cat (or did she have me), Tina. I went to work and had a parking space right in front of my apartment. When I came home & parked, there she was, buffed up against the window, meowing. It meant the world to me that someone was waiting for me (yeah, I know she wanted her food etc.) but it really did mean a lot to me, and her. A few years later I moved in with my mum, for whatever reason, Tina had to be with me wherever I was, she was a bit of a nervous cat, she had to sleep on the bed with me, bless her, she's long gone now. My current cat, Cactus, apparently when I get in the lift to go upstairs, he knows I'm there, he comes & greets me. Every year when we go on holiday he goes to a "cat hotel", apparently he gets on well with the cats next door to his room & the people who care for him. When I go and pick him up, he's all over me, and follows me closely when we get home. My favourite story is from a chap, Guy, who I worked with. He went on holiday and the neighbours looked after his cat for a couple of weeks. When he got home, his cat sort of ignored him, but sat in front of the TV, back to him, occasionally turning around to say "you still here?"

Totally true. I found my cat abandoned near a lake and saved it, when she was only about 3 weeks old, or maybe less. She wasn't able to poop on her own, eat or walk,yet. I raised it like a baby, and now she is totally adicted to me. When I go to bathroom, she goes to the litterbox, when we eat, she eats, when I am away from home more than one day, she suffers very much. I was I the hospital for 2 weeks, with covid, and one day my mum was at my house, to feed the cat and take some cloths to bring me to the hospital. When my cat heard my voice over the phone speaker, and recognized it, she started yawning, and long mewoing, like a desperate cry. We had to stop the conversation because she turned totally desperate, punching the phone with her nose and meowing. I cried the hole day, and after two more days I decided to leave the hospital on my own responsability, because I missed her si much and I was afraid she will get ill. Our small friends have souls and feelings, too, this is what I believe.

We have an almost 20 year old furbaby we adopted as a rescue when she was about 5 weeks old. She bonded immediately with our son (who was in 1st grade at the time). Fast forward many years - she absolutely missed him when he went to college. He was home on the weekends, and she was at the door waiting for him. She loves all of us, and will come looking for me if I leave a room for too long, but he is her "person". She even laid on his ankle when he broke it, like she was trying to heal and comfort him. She's really been a blessing these past 20 years, and is a true member of our family. ❤️

My kitty used to have separation anxiety. When I wasn’t around, she’d look around the house, meowing the saddest meow you’d ever hear. When I would get back, she’d yell at me until I laid down for some cuddle time. Over time, as covid restrictions died down, she’s gotten better, more secure in herself. She still makes me cuddle with her if I’ve been away for too long tho lol.

Once I was away for 30 whole days, longest I’ve been apart from her. The reunion was adorable. She at first didn’t realise I was me, and thus ignored me. After some sniffs, she started head butting my hand and leading me to my bed, Aka where she makes me snuggle. Of course she meowed so loudly the whole time until I laid with her.

Week long vacation, my wife preps me about that first few minutes down the road...I'm usually in tears, but it passes when I finally give in to the fact that they have each other, shelter, familiar surroundings and our scent all over the duplex. You will only ever understand the emotions of a cat missing their owner if you've been through that experience personally. I was living with my parents until I finished studying and found a job. I've been with our cat for 13 years at that point and moving out was the hardest thing I've ever done tho this point as I couldn't take her with me to the city because she's an outside cat. The first year was absolutely soul crushing. My parents told me my cat was restless, always going outside sitting in front of the door or on the wall just... Waiting... Looking into the distance. 3 years later, she recognizes the sound of my car and whenever I came to visit she would greet me as soon as I left it, making noise, rolling on the floor receiving belly rubs, purring like mad. When I sit in the garden she occasionally jumps onto my lap to sleep and groom herself.

You simply don't get it unless you are a pet owner yourself.

Yeah, it's a little like having a child, which is why I'll never have pets of my own. I've ended up being the primary caregiver for my roommates' cat, and I hate feeling guilty for hurting an innocent creature every single time I have to live my life. I love cats, but keeping them as pets isn't for me. I don't understand why anyone would want to live like that. At least kids grow up and you can easily communicate with them by the time they're 3 or so.

Had to be separated from our 5 cats due to the pandemic. The first few months after we got them back, we noticed the separation anxiety it had caused them. Everytime we had to leave to house for errands, they'll be extra affectionate as if begging us to not leave them again. It broke my heart thinking that they must have thought we abandoned them in those 2 years.

That was a year ago and today they're all thankfully back to their normal selves again. Happy and content but without a doubt, more clingy than ever

@Lina Basilisk I had a friend in the hospital and since he had a stroke and missed his cat, the nurses allowed her to visit with him a few hours every day. Of course she stayed by his side after he got home but their bond stayed strong.

I got my Gizmo at 6 weeks old. After having him for four months I went on a week vacation with my mom. My friend kept him for me. She had 4 other cats, so leading up to her keeping him, I would bring him over to see how he and her cats interacted. Her two senior cats ignored him, but her youngest was territorial. But soon, they started getting along. I also bought a large pet playpen just in case she needed to separate him for any reason. I set it up in my living room a week ahead of leaving, so he could get used to going in and out of it whenever he wanted. I felt horrible when I dropped him off at her house. Felt like was abandoning him. He was spoiled while at her house, but she said each night he got in the playpen to sleep. Like he felt safe there. When I came back to get him, he was playing with my friend’s youngest cat and didn’t notice I came in. When I said, “Where’s my lil’ squirt?” (That’s what I called him as a kitten) his head popped up, ears perking up, and he ran to me. Shortly after, he crawled into his cat carrier ready to head home. I had been afraid he would have forgotten me, but he didn’t. He did miss my friend’s cats for a bit after we went home for a while, though. He’s two and a half now, and last vacation we went on, my dad came over and took care of him each day. My parents live a mile away. My friend had just lost one of her elderly cats, and the other was sick and having to have special care. I didn’t want to burden her with another cat at that time. Gizmo tolerated my dad, but never really warmed up to him, though he came over twice a day. Gizmo sure let me know how he felt upon my return. I was thoroughly told off in cat language. I do believe our cats miss us, how much depends on the circumstances of who keeps them while we are gone. LOL! A house full of other cats to play with was more fun than home alone with twice daily visits from PawPaw it seems. LOL!

when Dorian was about 2 1/2 he suddenly seemed less interested in playing, in spending time with us when we got home (we both worked fulltime) so we looked around for a while and found him a kitten. Octavia has been with us for 3 years now and they spend all day playing and napping together. she was what our family didn't know we were missing. Now that we are both work from home theyre finding their new schedule and are finally sleeping enough again a few weeks into it.

Plus I’ve also heard the heart piercing baby-cry meow the cats make when they think I went out but I haven’t.

I had to start taking my cat to the kennel at my vet whenever I leave, because when I have my mom or roommate take care of him, he stops eating and starts hiding or doesn't show up for meals. It's been great because he eats all of his food like he's supposed to, and the staff there absolutely ADORES him because of how sweet he is so he's always getting tons of attention.

yes, they do miss us. we went on a two-week trip a few years ago. my cat was left home alone, though my daughter who didn't live with us stopped by daily to feed her, pet her and clean her box. when we arrived home after the trip, we were surprised at our cat's reaction. she scream-cried, then would heave and repeat for two weeks and would not leave our side. we'll never leave her alone again. we felt so horrible!

@Monica Most cats are bonded to their territories more than their human companions, don't travel well, and don't adapt to new surroundings, so what to do? Not leave home for 16 years? Agreed, it would probably be better not to have pets than do so regularly but, to put it into context, many people dump their kids in boarding school or altogether too, so the cats really haven't got it that bad.

I once had to be away for work for a few days at took a cat with me thinking it would be better than leaving him with a sitter. It was a very BIG mistake. He was so unhappy traveling, and was totally freaked out by the new surroundings. That he was with me meant nothing to him. He just wanted to be at his home.

@Monica especially for cats it can be difficult to move to different places. One of my cats gets motion sick, one (whom we call "America" 'cus his "FREEEDOM") gets anxious when he gets into his pet carrier and even trying to put his harness to go out for walks is stressful for him even with treats, and he hates being held, lol, don't even think about any type of restraint for him, I have another cat who hates traveling, she traveled her entire life and hates it, so we have at home vet visits for them and we have people living at my house when we travel so they're not completely alone and get more human interaction than just feeding and peace out.

Hi, Jackson - I'm still feeding those 5 feral male cats, who all miss miss in the morning and at dinner time. They are all so different! Three of them really seem to miss me and want lots of my attention now. The oldest one wants to come in the house, but almost immediately wants to go back outside. The black one LOVES to come inside and has to literally be put out. The grey and white one takes his cues from the oldest one, but is afraid to come inside. The fluffy black one couldn't care less - Just pet him a little when he wants, feed him and go away - and the white and tabby one that gets bullied by everyone just wants to be petted and fed. We'll see what the dynamic is after the Winter has come and gone.

A few years ago, we lived in a house which had the driveway where I parked right alongside the living room window. When my husband and I would both leave together to go somewhere, invariably Toenee (my cat) would have one of his little fuzzy cat toys in his mouth and he would look out that window at us in the van! It made me feel so guilty leaving him, and it was such a cute and loving gesture at the same time. Now, whenever I come in after being gone, he comes to the door to greet me! Lets me know that he’s glad I’m home. So, yes, I know he misses me when I have to be gone!

Whenever my cat comes in if it's raining she calls out to me with a loud and very distinct meow and I have to call out "here I am Pepper" and she responds with a tone that definitely sounds like a question -"Where?" until she can see me. She's just as concerned for me being caught in the rain as I am for her. Wonderful little beings!

Yrs ago Patches had kittens on the patio.. I heard a noise.
Went out there & noticed a kitten gone.
Spouse & I discussed it & thought maybe Patches ate it for some reason.
The next day, I walked out and a hawk was flying towards me w/ its feet out. He was saying ahhh a free meal Thank God it flew away when it saw me.

We moved the kitties into the mudroom & we didn't see the hawk again.

Both my red cat's got insanely attached to me. My kitten which has sadly passed used to try and join me on the buss back in my old school. We had to lock the cat door for up to 2 hours every morning for about a year before he gave up. The other one is an adult still alive and when he wants my attention he does not give up not even for a puppy trying to bite him he just follows me around untill he see's and opportunity to jump onto me and hold on no matter how hard i try and remove him😂 so yeah your cat's can definitely miss you

Took some twisting of the arm, but my spouse and I are SO glad we got a second cat for our little family. They play, they snuggle, they do their own things as well during the day. They cuddle up to us when they want and they're just happy healthy spoiled kitties. Both of our cats are rescue/shelter cats and they are truly the thing I look forward to the most when I come home from a long day at the hospital. And my spouse too. I had a cat that would have actual tears when I wasn't home. One time we went on a four day trip, I had my brother watch our house for us. Pantera went around crying, my brother had to use tissue to wipe off his face. I thought I had a brilliant idea and had him put the phone to my cats ear so I can talk to him, my brother said I made it worse because now he was confused and really looking for me. My brother felt so bad, he didn't even want to watch him again because he felt so heartbroken for him. Pan was a siamese cat, so beautiful and lovable.

I adopted my oldest cat, Andy, in 2020 when he was 8. When I did, the shelter told me he would not be able to live in a home with other cats. After a breakup and a move, when I would come home from work or school, he would scream at me for a bit when I got home and was so desperate for affection. I decided, based on his behavior around other cats, to try to get him a friend. I brought home 8 month old Ollie. Within 5 days they were cuddling and grooming each other, and are now the best of pals, and Andy does greet me when I come home but no longer screams at me. I’m so happy that he has a brother now 💕

Thanks Jackson! We have 4 feline family members and the dynamic and order of these between them is definitely sibling style relationships, and they're all so different. Our 11 year old plays with our 1 year old because they both want attention. Our other 4&3 y.o play with the others, but could careless about who's got what area, beds, food, etc. Typical healthy family. They all play, eat, and hang out together. Cats are the best friends ever 😸😽😻😼

We got a second cat and it took about 6 months for our oldest to accept him. I was worried we would have to rehouse the kitten. My oldest who was SUPER chill before we brought home the kitten now was growling, hissing and swatting (us included). So glad we stuck it out. Are they best buds ? No.but I see the love there for each other

Love this channel, I wish I had the tips from it when I got my first cat. He's still doing great, has two new roommates as of the start of this year, that's how I came accross the channel, as I wanted to learn more about introducing cats to one another. We did it right, to the point the 3 cats literally share their food and sleep in the same bed, with occasional cuddles and being super-adorable. It would have not been possible without this channel, as the 2nd cat turned out was pregnant and there was initially quite of tension. Thank you for sharing your cat-wisdom!

My father described our home, as ‘the best cats home in the world’. If my wonderful second mum went away for a few days, one tabby cat would sit on the back of a comfy armchair, watching out the window, because she would often walk back from shops and he would see her. For days, apart from eating etc, he would be on the back of the chair……By contrast, when I moved out of said cats home and lived a 400 mile trip away, I was heartbroken the last two residents…..didn’t really recognise me 😂😂

I used to get really frustrated with my cats because I felt like they didn’t love me like my dogs did.

One day when I was out and about, I happened to see a book about cat behavior (I wish I could remember the name) and just grabbed it out of curiosity.

It ended up being a complete game changer for me. I learned the recognize the subtle changes in body language that cats have and realized that my cats avoided me because I was treating them like dogs.

I adjusted my behavior and home to better accommodate my cats and within a few weeks our relationship changed: the came over more often for cuddles, their cute little tails would raise up and gently curl (like a question mark) whenever I approached, they started meeting me at the door when I came home, etc. Even became more tolerant of nail clippings and going to the vet.

I wish I could remember the name of the book that completely changed my perspective on cats, because I would highly recommend it. If you ever find the time to pick up a book about Feline behavior (ideally written by a professional behavioralist) you really should!

The bottle baby thing is true! My old girl is 16 years old. I took care of all her needs from 5 days old till now. She's very attached to me. My kids tell me she meows loudly when I go out. This past summer, we went on a week long vacation. My mom came over everyday to sit with our cats and water the lizards. She said my old girl was very depressed by day 2 of our vacation. My mom gave her special attention. When we got home, old girl was legit mad at me for leaving her. She didn't want to be near me for a couple days. But she's back to her clingy ways as before now.

Yes, my dog gets very excited when we come home and will pout at the door when we are gone (more so when I’m gone, he’s used to my husband being out for work or whatever). It’s very easy to tell that he missed us, even if you know nothing about animals.

But my cats are quite attached to me too, so if you know a bit about feline behavior, you can tell that they also missed us. They come greet me at the door when I come home, often with lots of pleading meows, begging for attention/pets.

The other day before I left the office I called my partner who was at home to discuss something and he put me on the speaker. Apparently out cat rushed down from the window as soon as she heard my voice and was looking around trying to identify where my voice comes from. I actually liked the end but lol, we ended up getting a cat for our cat. She wasn’t “bad”, but she seemed to struggle to play when we wanted her to (in her existing routine) and she started being up all night when we picked up more hours at work, so we got her a cat and they love each other while keeping each other busy through the day so they sleep at night

When we first got our cat, we left for the weekend and returned to a destroyed apartment and a clearly distressed and overly vocal cat. After a couple of months, we slowly introduced another one into the mix. In our case, the company of another cat was enough to ease her anxiety. If we leave now for the weekend and come back, she's affectionate at the door, but in a calm, "Dude, took you long enough." Way instead of a panicked, vocalized affection.

I have never had just one cat, and I probably never will haha. My oldest was an outdoor boy for years but when we moved at the start of the year we transitioned him back to indoor only. My partner and I adopted a street kitten together in 2019 and it's only this year that they have started getting really close with each other (probably as they are stuck inside). Either way they are now affectionate and groom each other and sleep next to each other and I just love it so much haha. TWO CATS ARE BETTER THAN ONE 🤣

My 2 year old cat, Emrys, was crying earlier today cause my mother wasn’t around. The rest of them weren’t too fussed. However, I know when no humans are in the house, they curl up together and watch out the window waiting for us to return.

Also, if there’s only one human in the house, regardless if they could go outside. They love to snooze in any room that human is. And will also just actively come back in from the outside for a scratch, and then go back out.

After I lost my place in the fires, I had left my cat, a bengal, at my parents, as i was figuring things out, 200+ miles away bc I still worked during the week and had nowhere else to leave him. When I returned that weekend to see him, i woke up from a nap to see him “spooning” my leg as he slept. As if he was holding on. I’d never seen a cat sleep like that.

Cats are so interesting with varying personalities! I’ll tell you about the two different cats I’ve owned.
Cat number One chose us, on a cold and rainy night I heard meowing outside my door, I opened it up to see a small white cat welcome himself inside my house and the rest is history. Everyday I come home from work I am greeted with his hello meows and purrs. The best cat ever.
Cat number two came from a stray mom, our neighbor noticed the stray was pregnant so she trapped her. She gave birth to a healthy litter and let me have one after a few weeks passed by. The kitten we chose we thought would bond with us. Nay nay, oh to the contrary. He would try to escape any chance he get, and he got out and lives with a different neighbor, he is an outside cat that keeps all humans at a distance. I am sure he doesn’t miss us or care about his new humans that care for him.
It must be in their DNA.

Definitely, at least mine does.
I can tell by his behaviour. He sees and hears me, when I put on my shoes and immediately starts to be all cuddly and starts talking to me. He is making it so hard for me to go. What a love bug.
One time, he put his favourite mouse toy into one of my shoes and I think, this is such a cute gesture and a definite sign of him not wanting me to leave.
He also meows a lot when I'm out the door. But after a few minutes, he calms down and just goes to sleep.
Sometimes, I find him under my blanket when I get home. Such a cutie. But to be fair, I also miss him and I'm happy to see him, when I'm back home.

I got my current cat as a kitten - the first kitten I've had in decades, all my others were rescues and no younger than 4 months - I was so afraid to even pet the kitten as he was so little! I attributed the fact that he was not 'cuddly' to that. As he has aged he has wanted more contact and gotten more 'cuddly'. Pretty sure he doesn't miss me.

Routines really make an impact. I'm sure everyone noticed their cats were more attached during the lockdown. Mine was so used to me being at home all the time, so when I leave for work in the morning, he was sadly vocal and I could hear him in the elevator.

I think best thing for a cat is to raise him/her with a small to medium sized dog. Only a little older. That’s how I did with my Kitty and it feels like it added a lot of dog traits and personality and made her quite a bit more social than regular cat. She says hi every time I come thru the door and accepts snuggles readily if she sees the dog being snuggled LoL

@Chlorine Lori How do you know they even took the cat to the vet or it was even vaccinated? Honestly if they cared they'd have kept her inside if she was straying that often to the neighbors and they didn't want her going there. Too many cats are just left out to fend for themselves and if they're lucky enough to find someone that will take care of them good for them. We feed the cats in our neighborhood all the time as do the rest of the neighbors. No one seems to know who they belong to but one things for sure they don't go hungry and get petted a lot. Also there's warm fuzzy covered kitty beds on the porch so if they want to sleep there they can.

This is so wrong, I hope you payed them back for all the vet visits and spaying until the point you took it from them. I let my cat out and she is very happy but cats are known to go where they get food. My cat would eat 20 times a day if I let her and be like those obese cats very soon, if someone was feeding my cat and letting her in their house I would be livid… thankfully I have normal neighbors. Instead of taking someone’s raised and vaccinated cat you should go to animal shelter and get another cat without a home. It’s your ego you like not the cat, because you managed to feed the cat into liking you more…

That's not kidnapping, that's catnapping. But honestly, a cat should be able to choose their own caretaker as there are so many people who treat their pets in a bad way, I'm not surprised some cats don't want to be with their original owner.
When I got my cat as a kitten I knew we were going to be friends because he was the only kitten of the 3 that showed genuine interest in me and seemed to enjoy being on my shoulder so much that I just fell in love instantly :) too bad he grew into such an enormous cat, cause I can't carry him around on my shoulder anymore, the monster weighs over 8kg, but that's normal for a maine coon :)

Thank goodness my cat doesn't have separation anxiety, but my mom was staying with me a few years ago and she told me that when I can home after a full day at work, it didn't matter what time I came home and it didn't matter if I parked in the driveway right next to the front door or farther away on the street in front of the house, my cat knew it was me and he would come running from wherever he was in the house to greet me at the front door.

I ALWAYS feel guilty or sad when I go on a vacation because I have a senior cat and 1 year cat who get along great, although the senior doesn't play much unless they chase one another. I also have a friend come and feed them and hang out for an hour uz I don't want them to feel lonely. But sometimes I feel so bad leaving them to the point of it taking the fun out of my trips. As an adult I returned to my home town and lived with my parents until I got resettled with work etc. To give us all a break from each other once in awhile I would take on house/cat sitting when people needed to go away for business or vacation. The visits ranged anywhere from 4 days to 4 months. I was so fortunate to have the chance to bond with some amazing cats. (One of them used to lay across my shoulders for hours during a game night with friends for instance.)
2 of them really missed me when their owners returned and I left. Their owners shared they would walk through the house looking for me. One would walk over my bed and pillow, crying and calling out for me. I missed them so much and they missed me.
I now have 2 cats of my own. When I come home they greet me at the door and we have a great bonding moment. They like nothing better than when our little family are all together in the living room when my husband and I are both home. That togetherness is all of our happy place. ❤

My cat had separation anxiety for a while. I took my mom on a trip and she broke her leg leaving us confined to the area for a couple months. My cousin who was watching her neglected her. She refused to leave my side and would scream when I left. Now she's completely fine if I give her time to herself.

I think cats miss us when we're gone for a while, but they're still cats, and they're still wired to the whole "certain members leave and bring home food"

i don't know about anyone else but i felt a real connection to my two cats...and i do to most cats i meet actually. my two though, they were siblings and looked very alike, they were so friendly and loveable. the slightly bigger one, Sasha...she was a big sap and would literally wait until you noticed her then roll over. she was my cat really...she loved to lie on my bed and wake up on my chest...or sleep anywhere in my room. the other one, Lyra, was the runt of the litter and she was more attached to my mum at first but after Sasha died then Lyra became very social and loved to spend time on everyone's lap...especially me and my mum. Lyra lasted until she was 20...RIP. I always felt better when i was with those cats...i felt happier a good hug from them made my day brighter.
