The Celtic Tenors began life as the Three Irish Tenors on RTE's Theatre Nig… Read Full Bio ↴The Celtic Tenors began life as the Three Irish Tenors on RTE's Theatre Nights on October 1995. The group at that time consisted of James Nelson, Niall Morris and Paul Hennessey.
In 2000, Matthew "Gilly" Gilsenan replaced Paul Henessey and the Celtic Tenors were then formed and signed to EMI. Singing a mixture of Celtic, Operatic and re-worked popular songs, the group have travelled extensively with many tours concentrated in the USA, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands. The group have performed with some of the world's leading orchestras including The Toronto Symphony, the Cincinnati Pops, and the Vancouver Symphony orchestra.
In June 2006, Niall Morris bowed out of the group and a young tenor from Omagh in Northern Ireland Daryl Simpson stepped into the group.
The Celtic Tenors have released four records with the EMI, Telarc and Dara labels. Their first album went on to achieve double platinum status in their homeland, Number 1 in Ireland and Germany, Number 2 in the UK, and won them the "Echo Award" for ‘Best Classical Crossover Act’ in Germany. They have recently recorded their fifth album entitled 'Hard Times'. It is an album comprising solely of American Song writers including Bob Dylan, David Baerwald, Randy Newman and Stephen Foster. The album was released by Compass Records in the USA on June 2, 2009.

This is the most famous Ave Maria, composed by Franz Schubert. It is hard to believe that a piece so beautiful was composed by a young man who led such a miserable life, where he was often penniless and poor, dying eventually of syphilis. Fortunately his genius is eternal, and we have his music to remember him by. How much of Schubert's music was even performed in his lifetime? I had also thought that Schubert's last dying wish was to be buried near Beethoven.

Schubert did not die of syphilis in an insane asylum. You are thinking of Schumann, who was committed. Schubert's syphilis never reached end stage - but it destroyed his immune system, much like AIDs. In November of 1828 he contracted a fever, which, with no immune system to fight it off, ravaged him and took his life quite quickly. He died in a small, dark room at his half-brother's apartment. The poor thing was only 31 years old.
This being said, he did commit himself to the Vienna General Hospital somewhere from 1-3 times, despite having two private doctors (who treated him for free out of a respect for his music and general good will.) He suffered an immense amount of pain and torture that would be unthinkable to any modern day 25 year old. Unlike most men of his time, he was truly a wonderful person who was beloved by everyone he met, and at only 5'1, bespectacled, and chubby, he's hard not to love. It is a shame he became so enamored with the rogue Schober.
Schubert was quite proud of Ave Maria and even wrote a letter to his father, who he had a strained relationship with, about how much his friends loved it. It was published in both the original English and German, but the melody was later adopted by the Catholic church and the "Ave Maria" latin text was set to it. I am so glad that Schubert did not suffer for naught, and that we still dearly love him and his music today 💚🍄

Ordinarily I would agree. But, to me, Silent Night, Holy Night is the most beautiful. In 1969 I was aboard an aircraft carrier when Bob Hope came aboard on Christmas Eve. There is nothing so beautiful as to hear the voices of thousands of Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, and Airmen raised singing Silent Night. I still cannot sing it without choking up.

You're not here because you're Catholic, you're here because the spirituality of this music feeds the soul, yours included. I feel no need to bring up my religion because it's irrelevant. Christians Muslims & Jews, need to learn that Religion & Spirituality are separate and it's irrelevant what faith we follow, because it's between the Almighty ONE & the follower. My mother died Aug 1999 and I adored her. We had Catholic Mass for her and, when the casket was about to leave the altar, a young girl, maybe 13 or 14, sang AVE MARIA with such an angelic voice, beautiful voice. I am 78 yo and still remember that moment, there was not a dry eye in the church. I know she is looking for me in heaven.

Chloe Agnew's rendition of the Franz Schubert masterpiece, the Ave Maria (or the Hail Mary), is indeed super mesmerizing, delightful, and soul-piercing. Chloe's voice here sounds delicate and super soft, that is why it is so pleasant to our ears. But, mind you, Chloe has the ability to smoothly shift her voice to one that is loud and powerful, if the piece that she is singing, demands it from her. One of the most beautiful songs ever written (my opinion, but I think a lot will agree with me). And the singer possesses a clarity and purity of voice that can only be described as a gift from God on High. Wonderfully executed performance.

I grew Catholic...got married and did the Christian Wife thing..now I am more in tune with nature, energies, spiritual awakening but this song always touches my soul so much. This was my Pops favorite as well. Celtic woman have such beautiful voices of angels. <3 #LoveLightBlessingsToAll

Ave Maria was originally in Latin, but here is the English translation: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. This is the Catholics prayer of course. Although I'm an Evangelical Baptist I love this song and Choles voice just bring such beauty unimaginable, lyrics aside the music is haunting and mesmerizing.

NamVet70Mike: I THOUGHT as much the song was original language of the Catholic Prayer, "Hail Mary, full of Grace." I used to recite it every Tuesday, when we had Devotions at Elementary School. We used to walk in a straight line from our classroom to the church. Ah..... precious memories👏💚.

Name does not matter. I sing this song as a prayer to Mother Goddess Kali. I feel so much peace and it reinstates my faith in her to deliver me from this mortal world to those in the higher dimensions
