My Heart
The Choice Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You packed your bags just like I did
The biggest difference
Was you decided to linger
It broke my heart to watch you
Struggle and I had to hide it
For fear of lashing out
You always told me I wasn't trying
You always told me I didn't care
It makes no sense all those fights now
That I can see
The bigger picture
You never blinked twice when
You put me down
You put me down

You always told me I wasn't trying
You always told me I didn't care

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to this song are about a relationship in which the singer and their partner both decided to leave, but the partner stayed behind for a bit longer, causing pain for the singer. The singer had to hide their feelings and struggle with the fear of lashing out. In the past, the partner had criticized the singer for not trying or caring enough, which now seems nonsensical in the context of the bigger picture. The partner had put the singer down without a second thought.

The emotions conveyed in this song are complex and layered. There is a sense of regret and frustration at the lost relationship, but also a feeling of resentment towards the partner for their past criticism. The lyrics highlight the difficulty of leaving a relationship behind, particularly when there are unresolved issues and hurt feelings.

Ah Yeah yeah... ahh

I need some time
To make up my mind (mind)
You've got the key to my heart (key to my heart)
Baby don't you ever go away (go away)

Sitting here thinking about the time we first met
It brings a smile to my face
No one else could ever take your place
Yet I'm afraid of falling in love
The joy the pain that love can bring
Promise me you'll never leave my side

Your kind of love (kind of love)
Is very special (very special)
Our love sent from heaven above (heaven above)

[Chorus:]
I need some time (I need some time)
To make up my mind
You've got the key to my heart (key to my heart)
Baby don't you ever go away too far
I need you safe in my arms (safe in my arms)
You've got the key to my heart
Baby please don't you ever leave my side

So we've touched
I don't wanna rush this feeling
Relax your mind it's all that goes
I know you ever felt this way before
Love has took control
And I'm the one you want to hold
I know that you want me
And boy you know I really want you too

Your kind of love (kind of love)
Is very special (very special)
Our love sent from heaven above (heaven above

[Chorus:]
I need some time (I want you to stay, I want you to say)
To make up my mind (I want to hold you)
You've got the key to my heart (key to my heart)
Baby don't you walk away too times (promise me we'll never part)
I need you safe in my arms (safe in my arms)
You've got the key to my heart

I don’t know why LA didn’t like the group . They sound so good .

@buellaaasmith8918

Full of shit

@redreadyj8916

Because it was too many RNB groups out then to be honest and they were all doing so good and he wanted to hear something else and I get it 😊but they did sound decent but not good enough to compete with “the girls “ they couldn’t outsing swv, total , xscape , Envogue Blaque TLC … etc so they wouldn’t have made it far anyway and honestly pink wouldn’t have either if she did just RNB .. so I’m glad she switched up because she got the white crowd on here side then and that’s what she needed to go up ❤

@JustTheConcerts

WOW.....I love this song. Definitely some SWV and Xscape vibes. Nothing like 90's RnB.
