1) The Choir were a rock band in the mid-1960s from Cleveland Ohio, best known for the oft-covered song "It's Cold Outside". With the addition of singer Eric Carmen, they became The Raspberries in 1970. The band consisted of Dann Klawon on rhythm guitar, Dave Smalley on vocals & rhythm guitar, Wally Bryson on vocals, lead guitar, & bass, and Jim Bonfanti on vocals & drums.
2) The Choir (originally The Youth Choir) is an atmospheric alternative Christian rock band, led by Derri Daugherty on guitar and vocals, Steve Hindalong on drums -- who also writes most of the band's lyrics -- and Dan Michaels on lyricon, electric flute and saxophone. Originally formed in Southern California in the early 1980s, the band members moved to the Nashville, Tennessee area in the 1990s. Past members include guitarist Marc Byrd and bass guitarists Michael Sauerbrey, Robin Spurs, Bill Batstone, and the late Tim Chandler.
Each band member also has a depth of musical history outside of The Choir. Hindalong produced four successful City On A Hill albums, writing the well-known song "God of Wonders" with Marc Byrd. Daugherty has been a member of the Christian-alterna-pop-supergroup The Lost Dogs since it started in 1991, and Hindalong joined the group in 2006. Chandler was the bass player for years for Daniel Amos and that band's alter egos The Swirling Eddies, and passed away in 2018. Byrd was a member of Common Children, recorded with his wife Christine Glass as Glassbyrd, and is currently half of the post-rock duo Hammock. Michaels has been a Senior Vice President of Fair Trade Services (formerly INO Records) since 2000.
About Love
The Choir Lyrics

The salt of morning tears
Again I say good-bye to you
Hold on tight
So good to hurt so bad
So sad to ride away renewed
Go on laugh, go on cry
It's alright
There's something wonderful about love
There's something wonderful about love
There's something lost about me with you
There's something blind about the chosen few
There's something wonderful about love
Was I meant to be yours
The will of Christ above
Do you believe true love is blind
'Cause I don't know
When I get home come spring
Won't you be glad to be mine
Just don't laugh
Please don't cry
Just say so
There's something wonderful about love
There's something wonderful about love
There's something dark about destiny
There's something blue about you with me
There's something wonderful about love
Sorry to call so late
The planet turned four times
You're on my mind but you're nowhere
In my world
Please, kiss the little bird
God bless the cozy cage we share
You kill me
You thrill me
You threaten my dreams, girl
There's something wonderful about love
There's something wonderful about love
There's something liberating death alone brings
There's something funny about a lot of sad things
There's something wonderful about love
The Choir's song "About Love" explores the complexities and contradictions of love. The opening stanza speaks of the bittersweet taste of love - the sweetness of a lover's breath but also the salty tears shed during goodbyes. The contradiction continues in the following lines where the singer describes the pain of parting as "so good to hurt so bad" and the sadness of leaving someone as an opportunity to "ride away renewed." The chorus emphasizes the wonder of love and its ability to make us feel both lost and blind, yet still enchanted.
The second verse asks the age-old question of whether love is pre-destined or a matter of choice. The singer speaks of the will of Christ above and questions whether true love is indeed blind. The final stanza is a late-night phone call to a distant lover, begging her to kiss the little bird and bless the cozy cage they share. The singer speaks of how this girl kills, thrills, and threatens his dreams, but it's clear that the power of love trumps any perceived danger.
The overall message of the song seems to be that love is a complicated thing. It can bring us incredible joy and pain, make us feel lost and blind, and necessitate difficult choices. However, the singer ultimately comes back to the idea that there is something wonderful about love that makes all the struggles and contradictions worthwhile.
