1) The Choir were a rock band in the mid-1960s from Cleveland Ohio, best known for the oft-covered song "It's Cold Outside". With the addition of singer Eric Carmen, they became The Raspberries in 1970. The band consisted of Dann Klawon on rhythm guitar, Dave Smalley on vocals & rhythm guitar, Wally Bryson on vocals, lead guitar, & bass, and Jim Bonfanti on vocals & drums.
2) The Choir (originally The Youth Choir) is an atmospheric alternative Christian rock band, led by Derri Daugherty on guitar and vocals, Steve Hindalong on drums -- who also writes most of the band's lyrics -- and Dan Michaels on lyricon, electric flute and saxophone. Originally formed in Southern California in the early 1980s, the band members moved to the Nashville, Tennessee area in the 1990s. Past members include guitarist Marc Byrd and bass guitarists Michael Sauerbrey, Robin Spurs, Bill Batstone, and the late Tim Chandler.
Each band member also has a depth of musical history outside of The Choir. Hindalong produced four successful City On A Hill albums, writing the well-known song "God of Wonders" with Marc Byrd. Daugherty has been a member of the Christian-alterna-pop-supergroup The Lost Dogs since it started in 1991, and Hindalong joined the group in 2006. Chandler was the bass player for years for Daniel Amos and that band's alter egos The Swirling Eddies, and passed away in 2018. Byrd was a member of Common Children, recorded with his wife Christine Glass as Glassbyrd, and is currently half of the post-rock duo Hammock. Michaels has been a Senior Vice President of Fair Trade Services (formerly INO Records) since 2000.
Like a Cloud
The Choir Lyrics

I wanna drink you like a flower drinks rain
I wanna lift you up to Heaven
Now, I can't get you
Off of the ground
When you wear such heavy shoes
But I'll keep trying
Like a cloud
I wanna drink you like a flower drinks rain
I wanna lift you up to Heavenly places
And beg you to remain
I never mean to make you cry
I don't want to bring you down
When I'm descending
Hold on tightly
I always turn around
I wanna float you like a cloud
I wanna swallow you like flowers swallow rain
I wanna go with you to Heavenly places
Then beg you to remain
The Choir's song "Like a Cloud" is a beautiful love song that uses poetic imagery to express the singer's deep love for someone. The first two lines of the song reveal the singer's desire to elevate and nourish his lover: "I wanna float you like a cloud / I wanna drink you like a flower drinks rain." These lines metaphorically express the singer's willingness to lift his lover up and quench her thirst for intimacy.
The following verse reveals the singer's frustration at his inability to lift his lover off the ground due to her heavy shoes. Despite this obstacle, the singer insists that he will keep trying to elevate her because he wants to "float her like a cloud." The chorus repeats the desire to elevate and nourish his lover, using slightly different phrases: "I wanna lift you up to Heavenly places / And beg you to remain."
The final verse reflects the singer's concern for his lover's emotional wellbeing. He promises not to make her cry or bring her down and encourages her to hold on tightly. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, using slightly different phrases to emphasize the depth of the singer's love and his desire to be with his lover in "Heavenly places."
Overall, "Like a Cloud" is a poetic and deeply romantic song that expresses the singer's willingness to lift, nurture and cherish his lover.
