Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Choir Of Winchester Cathedral's song, Pie Jesu, are a part of the requiem mass, which is a ritual of the Roman Catholic church that is performed in honor of the deceased. The phrase, 'Pie Jesu,' in particular, is a plea to Jesus Christ himself for mercy and compassion. The lyrics open with the repetition of 'Pie Jesu' four times, followed by the plea to take away the sins of the world. The next line is a request for peace and rest for the dead. The chorus then chimes in with the phrase 'Agnus Dei,' which means 'Lamb of God,' and is used to address Jesus. The rest of the song continues with the plea for rest and peace for the dead, ending with the word 'Requiem,' which means rest.

You never use age to excuse poor singing or poor music -- but this ISN'T POOR MUSIC AT ALL! It is just heavenly, just divine. Dominic is in fact responding to the score as well as to the accompaniment. His articulation of notes, as well as of Latin, is excellent.

@thomasromano9321

Beautiful rendition which, I believe, was the composer's intention. Faure's intent was to use a boy soprano, not a female singer.

Absolutely beautiful, best rendition ever.Trained sopranos do sing it well but a treble like Dominic is so pure and unaffected which makes it sublime.

@kenavo2103

Merveilleux requiem avec l'un des plus beaux Pie Jesu qui soit et quel bonheur chanté par ce jeune garçon. Même 32 ans après l'enregistrement est excellent!

Que hermoso canta este angel!!

I like it so much...One boy, an angel voice singing Fauré in a so beautiful cathedral...Perfect!

This is by far my preferred version of the magnificent Faure Requiem. The choir is superb, including the marvelous soloists, bass Thomas Allen and this terrific young treble, Dominic Harvey, who has such a pure voice and excellent delivery. The sensitive commentary by the late Sir John Gielgud and the visual blocking of the choristers and general impact of this entire performance 1980 performance are exceptional.

Pie Jesu...
Pie Jesu...
Can not stop listening...
Truly one of the most glamorous moments of classical music...

I have listened to tree versions this morning: Philippe Jaroussky's, Barbara Bonney's and this one. The beauty of our voices is that each is so different. From Bonney one has prowess; from Jaroussky (still young) promise of even more more; from this child one has a purity of sound. I love the flaws in this one, which remind me of our humanity. And I envy each singer.

What are the flaws in this one?
