Those Were The Days
The Church - Brothers Lyrics

c little rewind in your mind
2002, 2005
Hey, you remember how we used to roll
With the rhythm of the radio
Nowhere to be, nowhere to go
Joy ride in mama's car out to the reservoir
Yeah, we were small town stars
When we danced on the edge of a silhouette sky
cnd we painted our dreams in the sand
When we shouted forever like we'd never die
Those were the nights
When we danced on the edge of a silhouette sky
cnd we painted our dreams in the sand
When we shouted forever like we'd never die
Those were the nights
Oh, there was magic in the air
There were memories everywhere
cnd we were way too young to care
Love was an easy bet
We haven't lost it yet
You know I'll never forget
CHORUS
CHORUS
Those were the days, those were the times
Those were the memories that we made
Those were the nights
Those were the days, those were the times
Those were the memories that we made
Those were the nights
Those were the nights
The lyrics of The Church's song "Those Were The Days" evoke a strong sense of nostalgia and longing for the past. The song opens with a desire to revisit the past, asking if the listener wants to mentally rewind back to the years of 2002 and 2005. The mention of specific years adds a sense of specificity to the memories being recounted, hinting at a time that holds particular significance for the singer and the listener.
The lyrics paint a picture of carefree youth, where the singer reminisces about the times spent cruising around in their mother's car, feeling like "small town stars." The imagery of joy rides to the reservoir and the freedom of having nowhere specific to be or go captures the sense of youthful abandon and exuberance. These moments are depicted as a simpler time when responsibilities were few, and the focus was on enjoying the present moment.
The chorus of the song emphasizes a sense of freedom and possibility that characterized that time in the singer's life. Dancing on the edge of a silhouette sky and painting dreams in the sand symbolize the boundless creativity and optimism of youth. The idea of shouting "forever" as if immortality was within reach reflects the sense of invincibility that often accompanies adolescence. These were nights filled with promise and the belief that anything was possible.
The repeated affirmation that "Those were the days, those were the times, those were the memories that we made, those were the nights" underscores the wistful tone of the song. The singer holds onto these memories as treasures from the past, recognizing the magic and nostalgia inherent in those moments. The lyrics convey a deep sense of appreciation for the simple joys of youth and the connections forged during that time. Overall, "Those Were The Days" captures the bittersweet beauty of reminiscing about a time gone by, highlighting the enduring impact of those formative experiences on the singer's life.

How do you just discover them, man I grew up in the back seat of a 2009 GMC Sierra and these guys really mean a lot to me, they were my childhood, we hopped in the truck, me and my dad at 5:00am on a Sunday morning on a cold winter morning and went hunting, shot my first rifle with this song on the radio when I was 5 out a trust window. Good times
