Williams and White met in 2008, during a song-writing session or "writing camp" at a music studio in Nashville, Tennessee. According to Williams, the idea for the band's name came as she "was driving around town looking at all the Civil War monuments." Their first recording was of a 2009 performance at Eddie's Attic in Georgia which they released as a free Internet download called Live at Eddie's Attic. Later that year, they released a digital extended-play album, called Poison & Wine, produced by Charlie Peacock, and the title song appeared on the TV show Grey's Anatomy.
In 2011, The Civil Wars released the album Barton Hollow; which reached No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart, No. 54 on the UK Albums Chart and received Grammy nominations in the Best Folk Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance categories. The album was included on several critics' Best Albums of 2011 lists, including NPR Music, Paste, Time, Associated Press, AllMusic.com The Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and USA Today. They released the singles "Tracks in the Snow" and "Safe & Sound".
In 2012, The Civil Wars partnered with T-Bone Burnett on the film score for the documentary A Place At The Table (previously known as Finding North) and collaborated on the song "Lily Love" with The Chieftains. They released a 7" vinyl album with cover versions of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and Portishead's "Sour Times" in April. The duo was featured in American Way magazine, USA Today, on the cover of Billboard, and released a photo book called To Whom It May Concern.
In November 2012, the duo went on hiatus, citing "internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition". In August 2014, The Civil Wars announced an official break-up through press release.

I've fallen in love with a man on the run
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, I'm begging you please
Don't take that sinner from me
Oh don't take that sinner from me
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, what do I do?
I've fallen for someone who's nothing like you
Oh I just wanna take him home
Oh I just wanna take him home
Ooooooooooo
Ooooooooooo
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, he's somewhere between
A hangman's knot, and three mouths to feed
There wasn't a wrong or a right he could choose
He did what he had to do
Oh he did what he had to do
Ooooooooooo
Ooooooooooo
Give me the burden, give me the blame
I'll shoulder the load, and I'll swallow the shame
Give me the burden, give me the blame
How many, how many Hail Marys is it gonna take?
Don't care if he's guilty, don't care if he's not
He's good and he's bad and he's all that I've got
Oh Lord, Oh Lord, I'm begging you please
Don't take that sinner from me
Oh don't take that sinner from me
The lyrics of "Devil's Backbone" by The Civil Wars depict the tale of a woman who has fallen in love with a man who is on the run. She begs the lord to not take her lover away, even though he is considered a sinner by society. The woman acknowledges that her lover is different from her and raised on the edge of the devil's backbone, but still wants to bring him home with her.
The woman describes the difficult life her lover has had, with the burden of a hangman's knot and three mouths to feed. He faced tough choices and made decisions that were necessary for him to survive. The woman takes on the burden for her lover, willing to shoulder the load and swallow the shame if it means she can keep him close to her.
The lyrics of "Devil's Backbone" showcase a strong sense of loyalty and devotion in the face of the judgment of others. The woman accepts her lover's flaws and embraces him for who he is, refusing to let anyone take him away from her.

Sarah 147 All religion is stupid, Christianity just happens to be one where the fucking dumbasses can't make up their minds on what they want the story to be about
Its been changed time and time again that if there was a book detailing what happened back then and it was more or less the same, It is probably lost to the ages
Just like the infamous Necronomicon, Said to have been written by the mad Arab, Among other things the book was said to be able to summon the oldest god of all: Cthulhu
The book was said to be made of human skin, The cover was anyway... A very "Evil" And very powerful book that has been lost to the ages and if it is still even remotely intact, Picking it up would make it crumble to dust with how old it is.
I've always hated religion, Everyone fighting over creatures that don't exist, Saying they are real and getting into fights for no other reason than they feel like it.
Here is a fun question for you: If god is all-powerful can he create a rock so mighty not even he can lift it?
