1. The Clarks are an American rock band from the Pittsburgh area. Over the course of twenty years they have produced a total of 12 studio, live, and solo releases. Primarily being a regional band, a major highlight for the group and their fans was a musical appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On June 21, 2005, they released their first "Best Of" compilation, Between Now and Then. Band members: Scott Blasey (lead vocals, guitar), Rob James (Guitar, vocals), Greg Joseph (bass, mandolin, vocals), Dave Minarik (drums).
2. The Clarks are also a long-standing beat/rock band from The Hague, The Netherlands. They play cover versions and perform as a session and backing band. In recent years a large Dutch audience got to know them as the backing band for the 'Pioniers van de Nederpop' / 'Golden Years Of Dutch Pop Music' touring caravan. During these live shows they backed front men of Dutch beat groups from the 1960s and also performed a few tributes to Dutch legends such as Q65, Shocking Blue, Sandy Coast and The Hunters.

The Clarks Lyrics

My accountant pay my bills
I got a Mercedes-Benz
I hope this life never ends
And something's always happening when I show up
Man he drops a line about some bump uptown
For a disco diamond dog he met at the pound
His money is good
In Hollywood
I'm living with my man
No marriage in the plan
But like Mercedes Ruehl
He's gonna find I'm a jewel
And my boyfriend says he wants to break up
So I brought my pills and my makeup ground
Just in case I stay over or sleep on the town
The way she stood, I knew he would
The head is good
In Hollywood
And every goddamn things serves to remind me
That I'm alive but someday they're gonna find me
On the ground
I'm living on the street
I've got blisters on my feet
Could you spare some change for some food?
You ain't got to be so rude
And I've got no family to speak of
But I've got some cardboard and a tea cup
Found it in the garbage
You kick me, tell me to move up and down
The avenue, but I like the view
The sun is so good
In Hollywood
Spare a minute and listen to my story
There's fame, fortune and of course there is sex and glory
Bound for the big time houses, the rich side of town
The way he stood, I knew he would
The sun is so good
In Hollywood
The Clarks's song Hollywood is a representation of the glitz and glamor of Hollywood that is often portrayed in media. The song begins with a basic representation of the lives of people living in the hills of Hollywood. They have money, pay their bills, and live a luxurious life. They seem to have everything they could ever need, from a Mercedes-Benz to the hope that this life never ends. The reference to an "accountant" could signify that they are living a life of status and need someone to manage their money for them.
As the song progresses, we see the other side of Hollywood- the dark, gritty, and dangerous side. The lyrics talk about a man meeting a disco diamond dog, a reference to drugs and destructive habits. The way she stood, he knew he would fall for her, and his money is good. The song also talks about the dangers of drugs about the singer's boyfriend, who wants to break up, so they brought pills and makeup, preparing to do anything to salvage the relationship. The song puts forward that "the head is good" in Hollywood, referring to the quick benefits but with long-term consequences- losing oneself.
Towards the end of the song, the singer is in a street, having blisters on feet, and attending people begging for food. She reminisces on her memories, which she has found in the garbage, and how the sun is so good in Hollywood. The lyrics hint at the idea that the so-called good life of Hollywood that she has left behind wasn't perfect. She possibly was kicked out of Hollywood against her will, and now she's experiencing poverty and loneliness. The song reminds us that Hollywood isn't always what it seems.
