1. The Clarks are an American rock band from the Pittsburgh area. Over the course of twenty years they have produced a total of 12 studio, live, and solo releases. Primarily being a regional band, a major highlight for the group and their fans was a musical appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. On June 21, 2005, they released their first "Best Of" compilation, Between Now and Then. Band members: Scott Blasey (lead vocals, guitar), Rob James (Guitar, vocals), Greg Joseph (bass, mandolin, vocals), Dave Minarik (drums).
2. The Clarks are also a long-standing beat/rock band from The Hague, The Netherlands. They play cover versions and perform as a session and backing band. In recent years a large Dutch audience got to know them as the backing band for the 'Pioniers van de Nederpop' / 'Golden Years Of Dutch Pop Music' touring caravan. During these live shows they backed front men of Dutch beat groups from the 1960s and also performed a few tributes to Dutch legends such as Q65, Shocking Blue, Sandy Coast and The Hunters.
Promised Land
The Clarks Lyrics

Smash the television and take a stand
And it's my opinion you could use a hand
Smash the indecision, and take my hand
On this caravan into the promised land
It's my communion, I'm down on my knees
You've got to pray for our union and believe in me
When he met her she was just nineteen, and everything was right
On the way back home they stopped and kissed
On a cold November night
Five years on he bought a ring
Almost to the day
A year went by, she gave it back
Nothing left to say
And it's my confusion that's tearing me apart
And your disillusion burns inside my heart
I've been tried and convicted
You're sending me away
I'll have the last inscription
On judgment day
One more lonely man in a foreign land
The Clarks's song Promised Land is a song that is both personal and political. The lyrics start by declaring the singer's decision to take a stand and be the man he wants to be. He urges someone to smash their indecision and to take his hand as they journey together to the promised land. The promised land here can be interpreted as a place of freedom, a place where they can be their authentic selves. The singer's decision to smash the television and take a stand can be seen as a rejection of the consumerist culture that surrounds him. He is making a deliberate choice to live his life on his terms, to reject the status quo and to do things differently.
The second verse of the song tells a story of a relationship that started out well but eventually fell apart. The singer's confusion is tearing him apart, and he expresses his disillusionment with the situation. He feels like he has been tried and convicted, and he is being sent away. The promise of the promised land seems like a far-off dream. The last line of the song, "one more lonely man in a foreign land," is a poignant statement that captures the feeling of isolation that the singer is experiencing. However, it is also a statement of resilience. The singer is still standing, still fighting, still trying to find his way to the promised land.
