While The Color Fred had been in Mascherino’s plans since before he joined Taking Back Sunday, his solo project was put on the backburner with that band’s meteoric rise. In the wake of two gold records while in the band--2004’s Where You Want To Be (Victory) and 2006’s Louder Now (Warner Bros.)--and their subsequent touring commitments, it wasn’t until the Spring of 2007 that Bend To Break truly took shape.
Fred is also taking a green line with the band. Mascherino is quick to point out that the CD packaging is 95% recycled material, with an inlay tray made of cornstarch. The green lifestyle is evident in the 1982 VW Rabbit he owns, and which runs on veggie oil, not to mention the carbon offsets he bought for recording. He also plans to offset as much of his imminent touring commitments with THE COLOR FRED as possible.

Get Out
The Color Fred Lyrics

Had to hitch a ride to get myself fed
It was late but I know it's never too late to call you
You're a good friend with a bad tendency to get in over your head
Don't you don't you fall asleep
(gonna get us both killed driving back to Coatsville)
I swear I'll make it back someday
Get out, get out, get out
You're not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You're not driving
Get out, get out
I woke up on a Greyhound in a new town
Then again I was here a month ago
It was your birthday it fell on a Friday
And I should have been there for that I'm sorry
Regardless
Don't you don't you fall asleep
(gonna get us both killed driving back to Coatsville)
I swear I'll make it back someday
Someday
Get out, get out, get out
You're not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You're not driving
Get out, get out, get out
You're not driving
Get out, get out
We hit the ice just before the telephone pole
We hit the brakes
But there was no escape
We hit the ice and I see a car in your future.
They stitch and they sew and they suture
But this day will scar and right now we know how lucky we are
Don't you fall asleep
We know how lucky we are
Don't you fall asleep
I swear I'll make it back
Get out, get out
Get out, get out
I swear I'll make it back someday
(get out, get out)
I swear I'll make it back someday
(get out, get out)
I swear I'll make it back someday
(get out, get out)
I swear I'll make it back
Get out, get out
Get out, you're not driving
No not in the state you're in
Get out
You're not driving
Get out, get out, get out, get out
Get out
The Color Fred's song Get Out is about a late-night drive with a good friend who has a tendency to get into trouble. The singer hitchhikes to a drive-thru and then drives back with his friend while urging him to stay awake and not fall asleep at the wheel. The song takes a turn when they hit a patch of ice and crash, but miraculously they both survive, and the singer is left with a sense of gratitude for their friendship and their lucky escape.
The lyrics evoke the feeling of being on the open road, with the wind blowing through your hair and the sense of freedom that comes with traveling with a friend. The imagery of the drive-thru, the Greyhound, and the crash all contribute to a sense of urgent movement, as if the singer and his friend are racing to get somewhere, anywhere, before it's too late. The chorus is a repeated plea for the friend to get out of the driver's seat, a reminder that they're both vulnerable and that they need to take care of each other.
