Evolution
The Commander-In-Chief Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ambition is a fortress
isolated and vain
You don´t welcome any visitors
unless you like to explain
And all the living corpses that are left behind
Is a necessary evil
to become sublime
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
to find out who you really are
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
(welcome to the other side)

In the name of science we can taunt you, destroy you
We can do what we want
We can do what we please
Research knows no mercy

Evolution needs a little push
by the Ivy League
So any human weakness
can be relieved
And every generation
are given new drugs
Improving how you function
our interest is good
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
to find out who you really are
We´re gonna tear your soul apart
(welcome to the other side)

In the name of science we can taunt you, destroy you
We can do what we want
We can do what we please
Research knows no mercy

Research knows no mercy
Research knows no mercy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Commander-In-Chief's song "Evolution" portray a dark view of ambition and scientific progress. The song draws comparisons between ambition and a fortress, highlighting the idea that ambition often leads to isolation and a refusal to accept visitors unless one is willing to explain themselves. The "living corpses" that are left behind in the pursuit of ambition are seen as a necessary evil for one to become sublime. The lyrics suggest that tearing apart one's soul is the only way to find out who they truly are - a process that can be painful but ultimately revealing.

The song also explores the concept of scientific research and progress. The Ivy League is mentioned as a force that pushes forward evolution by relieving human weaknesses with new drugs each generation. The lyrics suggest that the interest of the research is good, but the methods used to achieve progress may not be merciful. The line "research knows no mercy" is repeated multiple times throughout the song, emphasizing this idea.

Overall, the lyrics of "Evolution" call into question the costs of ambition and scientific progress. The song suggests that these pursuits may come at the expense of others and that the means used to achieve these goals may not be ethically sound.

My Father remembers when he was a child at school when he used to go to the school dentist where they would perform dental surgeries on the students. He remembers no one having nothing wrong with their teeth but the dentists and nurses saying "No you need these teeth removed".

He thinks that they were lab rats for their practice because he remembers them saying things like "Try injecting here" or "Try the other tooth that might be better" just little hints that told him something was wrong.

This song highlights the mentality these fuckwits have.

Awesome song, awesome playing, hot chic. What else?

Good stuff Miss Chief that was cool.

Haha i didn't mean that way. The only reason i brought up the war was to say how little i know about Germany that's all.

I don't know anything is what i was saying.

But i can understand how that past must affect people from Germany today. Quite unfair actually being left with that stigma.

I was born and bred in New Zealand. I'm just travelling. But it's understandable you call Europe old dirty. It's your home, no one is excited about their own home. But in my opinion I think Europe is very beautiful.

You should travel to middle earth. Start at the top and just do a loop. It should only take 2 weeks max haha. I haven't done it myself but i'm sure it won't be too long.

You might find a kiwi girl and end up staying haha

You should do more material like this. I appreciate classical music and all, but these are pure gems compared to accustic stuff (to my ears at least). Love your metal music, please give us more to listen! :)

So gorgeous so talented she's phenomenal

Gabriel Fraser

3:52 Gotta say, that whole riff there just ends the solo so insanely smoothly - that's like some Pantera-level playing. Just ending it that way takes the solo from "Good" to "Excellent".

You know it's good when the video ends and you realize you've forgotten to breathe. Great song, great video, great outro from the guitar lead, and the subject matter.... well, I'm glad I watched it this morning instead of right before I went to bed!!!

The Commander In Chief is a very talented guitarist and she is a heavy metal siren in the spirit of Megadeth. Dave Mustaine, if you are watching this -- take some notes. She's as good as you are now at her young age.
