What's deceased and what's alive
Don't repeat what I just said
Until gold has turned to lead
And all the tales will be told
Whilst you and I are in the cold
But don't think this is the end
When it's done
And all this is gone
Just find the feeling
Pass it on
For every tear cried in shame
There'll be someone else to blame
And every crime that I commit
There'll be a punishment to fit
And I'd accept what's coming round
If I could only lose this sound
That's been ringing in my ears
And tormenting me for years
When it's done
And all this is gone
Just find the feeling
Pass it on
When it's done
And all this is gone
Just find the feeling
Pass it on
Just find the feeling
Pass it on
Just find the feeling
Pass it on
Just find the feeling
Pass it on
The lyrics to The Coral's song Pass it On message a deep introspection into oneself and the surrounding environment. The song's opening lines convey a sense of awareness and understanding between what's dead and alive, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the need to distinguish between the good and bad habits, thoughts or behaviours that have influenced the individual and the people around them. The verse that reads 'don't repeat what I just said until gold has turned to lead' hints on the importance of taking a moment to reflect before making a statement or taking action that could have irreversible consequences.
The song's chorus, 'when it's done and all this is gone, just find the feeling and pass it on,' encourages listeners to cherish and uphold their values, experiences, and emotions and share them with others. This sentiment is reinforced in the verses, 'for every tear cried in shame, there'll be someone else to blame,' and 'every crime that I commit, there'll be a punishment to fit.' Here, the lyrics point out the consequences of actions but end on a redemptive note by claiming 'if I could only lose this sound, that's been ringing in my ears, and tormenting me for years,' suggesting that every mistake comes with its lessons and that acknowledging them is the first step to making amends.
The song's profound message of accountability, honesty, and kindness has endeared it to many since its release, and it remains a timeless classic.

Every day I recognise
Each day, I realize
What's deceased and what's alive
What is dead and what is alive
Don't repeat what I just said
Do not say the same thing as me
Until gold has turned to lead
Wait for a long time
And all the tales will be told
All stories will be shared
Whilst you and I are in the cold
While we are in a difficult situation
But don't think this is the end
But this is not the end
'Cause it's just begun my friend
Because it has just started
When it's done
When it is finished
And all this is gone
When everything disappears
Just find the feeling
Find the emotion
Pass it on
Share it with others
For every tear cried in shame
For every tear cried in guilt
There'll be someone else to blame
Someone else will be responsible
And every crime that I commit
And for every crime that I do
There'll be a punishment to fit
There will be an appropriate punishment
And I'd accept what's coming round
I have to accept what is coming
If I could only lose this sound
If I could only get rid of this noise
That's been ringing in my ears
That has been bothering me for a long time
And tormenting me for years
And causing me pain for years
Just find the feeling
Find the emotion
Pass it on
Share it with others
Just find the feeling
Find the emotion
Pass it on
Share it with others
Just find the feeling
Find the emotion
Pass it on
Share it with others
