Isolation
The Counterparts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The best news I've ever heard was when you said you wouldn't leave
Because I know the distance would tear us apart.
And all the things you said,
Wouldn't mean a thing if you weren't here with me.
So as you turn your back to me,
I just want to let you know that I could never do this to you.
This is where our roads divide and they split in two,
And I will never see you again.
But I respect your choice.
The familiar pain sets in again,
But I can't let this drag me down.
It's things like this that made me who I am today.
It's thing like this that helped to shape/make me who I am today,
It's every hardship that I've faced.
And I've lost hope in myself,
But I just want you to know:

As everyday goes by,
I must accept that you're now living your own life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Counterparts' song "Isolation" describe a feeling of loss and separation from someone the singer deeply cares about. The singer expresses relief that the person won't be leaving, as they know that distance would put a strain on their relationship. The person's words and promises wouldn't mean anything if they weren't there with the singer. Despite this, the person decides to leave, and the two paths of their lives diverge. The singer respects the person's choice, but still feels the familiar pain of loss. However, they refuse to let it bring them down, as they recognize that it is these hardships that have made them who they are today.

The song conveys a sense of resignation and acceptance of the situation, with the singer realizing that they must let go of the other person and allow them to live their own life. It is a poignant exploration of the complex emotions that come with saying goodbye to someone who was once an important part of your life.

@muslimmetalman

Sophomore year, squatting 225 nostalgia...yum.

@fallendab2

amazing album

@Gurkmassa

This band makes so much justice to Melodic Hardcore!!

@adventuretime1344

Wouldn't this be more metalcore???

@hendrikdevries3930

@@adventuretime1344 no, definitely melodic hardcore

@glitchhhhhhhh

@@hendrikdevries3930 There are metal riffs and breakdowns all over this, this is clearly Metalcore to me. Not saying it's bad, I love this album. But Melodic Hardcore would be stuff like Have Heart, Verse, early Rise Against, Strike Anywhere etc. so more rooted in Punk. At least in my understanding.

@chilliam00

crazy replying to a 10 year old comment buy basically they're both. (They call themselves metalcore but they're no doubt hugely influential in the melodic hardcore scene). Melodic hardcore is such a varied gente from bands like Rise Against to Touche Amore to the Ghost Inside to Being As An Ocean etc.
