One More Day
The Cut Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

1 MORE DAY
Caught me at a bad time
left alone
One more day
Watching as the last night turns to grey
One more day
We've tried to make this last so long
and it's come this far
through threaded thorns and quicksand
Tattoos and we never got
shared headaches
hurt a lot
You'll be the best thing that I've known
One more day is taken
up all night awake and
turn back the clock and give me
one more day
Looking back at all our tracks
What I wouldn't give to have just one more day
Keep it on the far side let it be
One more day
Hoping that the sun will fade away

One more day
(PRE CHORUS) (CHORUS)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "One More Day" by The Cut express a sense of longing and regret over a relationship that has reached a critical point. The singer reflects on being caught at a bad time and left alone, yearning for just one more day with their partner. The imagery of watching as the last night turns to grey evokes a sense of melancholy and finality, highlighting the desperation to hold on to what they once had.

The lyrics also touch on the challenges faced in the relationship, acknowledging the efforts made to make it last despite obstacles like threaded thorns and quicksand. The mention of shared headaches and hurt underlines the struggle and pain experienced, yet there is still a recognition of the partner being the best thing the singer has ever known. This juxtaposition of struggle and deep connection adds complexity to the emotions conveyed in the song.

Looking back at their tracks, the singer expresses a willingness to give anything for just a little more time together, illustrating the depth of their love and the difficulty of moving on. The reference to keeping the memories on the far side and hoping for the sun to fade away suggests a reluctance to face the harsh reality of a potential breakup.

I think when they have to eliminate themselves, the inconsiderate folk get more opportunities to meet people, and that sucks.

Also, the following is about the Button 2.0 in general.
It frustrates me that the Button doesn't give good date prompts that would help the two people get to know each other without tension. The statements offered are usually divisive and awkward and I understand and appreciate that effect but think its timing often interrupts the contestants from getting to know each other beyond whatever odd fact or flaw is highlighted. It also annoys me that soon after, the light turns red and Obviously they want to get the other out bc that random unhelpful comment from the Button distracted them from making a connection.
Sometimes the timing for the button can be great, but if it's not, I feel like it just emphasizes how poorly the Button supported any real conversation. I also find it interesting that the Button sounds disappointed when there are no matches at the end of videos when it'll sometimes have been the Button's input that sabotaged people from connecting enough to want to try another date.

As I said, this isn't particularly related to this video -- it mainly has to do with how I feel like the function of the Button is different than it once was, and I kind of wish there was more of a balance in how it influences the output of the game.

Otherwise, I love watching these videos.

Cheers

Stephen is all the red flags I could ever think of. It took me a while to realise that he wasn't putting up an act when he was being so creepy. The girls were so disgusted by him that they eliminated themselves. I'm sorry for all those girls who had to undergo that experience.
