My Favorite Things
The Dave Brubeck Quartet & Dave Brubeck Lyrics

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
The lyrics to "My Favorite Things" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet & Dave Brubeck can be interpreted to reflect the power of positive thinking and focusing on the good things in life, even in difficult times. The song mentions a list of simple pleasures and comforting items that serve as a source of joy and comfort. Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles, warm woolen mittens, and brown paper packages all conjure up warm and cozy feelings. In contrast, the mention of cream-colored ponies, crisp apple strudels, doorbells, sleigh bells, and schnitzel with noodles all represent fond memories and dependable sources of pleasure. The middle stanza of the song goes beyond tangible objects and focuses on the natural world, speaking to the beauty of wild geese flying with the moon on their wings, the serenity of snowflakes staying on nose and eyelashes, and the promise of silver-white winters that melt into spring. This focus on the beauty of the world can serve as a reminder to focus on the good in life, no matter the circumstances.
The song's refrain of "When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad" reinforces this focus on positivity, offering a coping mechanism for dealing with negative experiences. The song encourages listeners to think about their favorite comforting things rather than dwelling on negative experiences. By shifting focus and thoughts, the song invites its audience to find peace and reassurance in the simple joys of life, providing an uplifting message of hope and gratitude.

My 1st Brubeck album, which is on LP but the CD is still (I believe) a Japanese import. GORGEOUS music. FANTASTIC.
But overlooked by many, not that his other records aren't wonderful, but still, I just don't get it.

Have you noticed that the piano is more isolated in the left ear, and the snare is more isolated in the right ear? ;)
