I Feel Love
The Dead Weather Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nothing is a color
I cross the desert
Nothing is alive

What does the black top know that I have not cracked with my mind
Nothing is a color
Gray as the pill
Nobody cries
Why do the screek lamp shine on still
Nothing is alive

I feel love every million miles
I feel love
Every once in a while

I feel love every million miles
I feel love
Every once in a while

Nothing is a color
I cross the desert
Nothing is alive

What does the black top know that I have not cracked with my mind
Nothing is a color
Gray as the pill
Deep in the eye
Why do the screek lamp shine on still
When nothing is alive

I feel love every million miles
I feel love
Every once in a while

I feel love every million miles
I feel love
Every once in a while

Why does my heartbeat feel like a speaker?
Feeding back
Repeater, repeater

Why does my heartbeat feel like a speaker?
Feeding back
Repeater, repeater

Why does my heartbeat feel like a speaker?
Feeding back
Repeater, repeater

Why does my heartbeat feel like a speaker?
Feeding back
I feel love every million miles
I feel love
Every once in a while
I feel love every million miles

I feel love
Every once in a while

Overall Meaning

In "I Feel Love," The Dead Weather delivers a haunting and enigmatic piece with lyrics that evoke feelings of isolation, desolation, and confusion. The opening verse "Nothing is a color, I cross the desert, nothing is alive" is a powerful description of emptiness and alienation. It suggests that the singer is on a journey, perhaps a spiritual one, and is confronted with the vast and seemingly empty expanse of the desert.

The lines "Why do the screek lamp shine on still, when nothing is alive?" suggest a sense of futility and absurdity, a feeling of being trapped in a world that's devoid of meaning. The repeated verse "I feel love every million miles, I feel love every once in a while" could be interpreted as a hopeful message despite the bleak surroundings. It's as though even amidst the emptiness, the singer is able to find flickers of hope and love, though they may be few and far between.

The repeated verse "Why does my heartbeat feel like a speaker? Feeding back, Repeater, repeater" is interesting because it contrasts the sense of isolation and emptiness with a feeling of connectivity and feedback. It could be interpreted as a reference to the singer's own creative process, which involves turning feelings of emptiness and isolation into something meaningful and alive through the act of expression.

@JudyMaryAndYuki

I'm digging the riffs on this track, but I feel like Alison Mosshart's singing is the true force here. She totally loses it in a totally good way! Can't wait for the new album!

@stevenfcandlen

I wonder if they wrote this together, sounds like Jack's vocal phrasing with Alison doing an overdub. I love everything Jack and friends do.
It's an amazing body of work, plain and simple.

@nicolasmb2457

+Steve Candlen True. They have similar voices, they'd go well together. Anyways Jack's is awesome on the drums

@19karl16

Alison M has to be the best lead of a band Iv seen or heard in a while. Captivated by her. I think she's astonishing. First person to grab my attention and retain that reaction anytime she's heard on a track or seen live. strangely enough Im not a mad fan of jack whites songs, or the white stripes. One or two songs maybe but not enough to replay or use as a reference point. With the dead weather, I can listen to them on repeat, non stop. I honestly adore this band and think they are the absolute tits
