For letting you in
Sometimes I wear your jacket
To remind me of your skin
Sometimes I think I'm dumb
Kind of sick of being numb
Don't make me look at that gun
'Cause life is worth living
And so I say
Another day
All alone, check my phone, no-ones home
Maybe one day, you'll choose to stay
So I don't have to feel like this
So I don't have to feel like this
Anymore
Anymore
Anymore
Anymore
This time I'm getting sick of
Letting you make me feel
Like I'm just here as safety
When you need to heal
It's over, yeah, I'm done
I only trust the sun
Don't make me look at that gun
'Cause life is worth living
And so I say
Live another day
Be alone, don't check your phone, enjoy your home
Maybe one day, you won't care if they stay
So you don't have to feel like this
So you don't have to feel like this
Anymore
Anymore
Anymore

And so I say
Live another day
Be alone, don't check your phone, enjoy your home
Maybe one day

You won't care if they stay

So you don't have to feel like this

The lyrics of The Deadbeats' song "Just Another Day" reflects a sense of emotional vulnerability and the struggle with unrequited love. The opening lines, "Sometimes I think I'm stupid for letting you in, sometimes I wear your jacket to remind me of your skin," suggest the singer's self-doubt and longing for a connection with someone who may not reciprocate their feelings. The use of the jacket as a symbol of the person they desire serves as a constant reminder of their unfulfilled desires.
The following lines, "Sometimes I think I'm dumb, kind of sick of being numb, don't make me look at that gun, 'cause life is worth living, right?" reveal the singer's inner turmoil and the battle with their own emotions. They question their own intelligence and express a desire to break free from their emotional numbness. The mention of the gun is metaphorical, representing the dark thoughts and desperation that can arise from unrequited love. However, they still hold onto the belief that life is worth living, seeking affirmation and hope.
As the song progresses, it becomes evident that the singer is growing tired of being used as emotional support by the person they desire. They express frustration with being seen as a safety net, only valued when the other person needs to heal. The lines, "This time I'm getting sick of letting you make me feel like I'm just here as safety when you need to heal, it's over, yeah, I'm done, I only trust the sun" convey a sense of determination to put an end to this one-sided dynamic and to seek happiness on their own.
The lyrics continue to emphasize the importance of self-reliance and finding contentment in one's own company. The repeated phrase, "Live another day, be alone, don't check your phone, enjoy your home" highlights the desire for independence and the need to prioritize self-care. The final lines express the hope that one day the singer will no longer care if the person they desire stays or leaves, suggesting their aspiration to find peace and emotional liberation.
Overall, "Just Another Day" captures the feelings of longing, frustration, and self-reflection that often accompany unrequited love. It acknowledges the struggle of maintaining self-worth while navigating the complexities of relationships.
