I know a lot of people say true dirty heads fans would hate this stuff. No, a true fan would respect them for taking this path, whether they think it's art or crap

Camron Glenn

I hate people that act as such. So you are telling me Dirty put out an album people should not like because its a departure from their normal sound. To hell with that.

Jacob J

this is actually my favorite song on the album

i love to tour

Me too!

Samuel murzea

Why is this song getting so much hate? It's one of my favorites! If you're a true DH fan, then you've been following them from the beginning, from the Dirty Demo to Sound of Change. I'd like to make a few lengthy points, but true fans are encouraged to read on. 1) Does nobody understand that BANDS EVOLVE? it's like us growing up. Bands change and decide they want to move in different ways, but they're still the same band. Nobody argued with the Red Hot Chili Peppers but they've played rap, funk, jazz, rock, reggae, indie and alternative, and all of their albums have different moods and influences. Thousand Foot Krutch even went from rap to metal in like four albums and have always kept the same Christian fan base! 2) With them evolving comes them honing their skills, and their vocals are on a whole other level on this album, guys! Their lyrics are awesome and original, their flow is improved, and Dirty J's singing ability has become extremely respectable! How can you expect them not to improve and utilize it? 3) The album is called Sound of Change, you're gonna hear the change. Please watch some of the Youtube videos from Five Seven Music where they talk about the album in interviews, and also the ones where Dirty J talks about each individual song. They expected to lose a huge amount of their fan base, and if you're hating because you don't like one bloody album, well we don't need you. This is what the band wants to do. 4) In the beginning they were reggae, hip hop, alternative, right? Actually, they still are. As a musician, I can hear the reggae elements incorporated into these hip hop, alternative songs, mostly in the drums but also in the guitar, which now seems somewhat of a minor instrument here. 5) Quit ragging on Rome! Yes he produced the album but he wasn't the only producer, plus, they're still DH songs. DH has been playing with him for years and Lay Me Down is one of their most popular songs partly because of him, and one of the reasons they got big. All this hate for Rome in general is pointless as well, you can't expect him to be Bradley. He was a fantastic reggae musician before he joined Sublime with Rome, and he still is a fantastic reggae musician, so the members of Sublime chose him to learn their songs and carry on with them to write new ones as a new band. He has incredible original music. He is not Bradley, he is not Sublime, and he should not be expected to be like them, they are a completely different band and he took on a huge commitment when he joined Sublime with Rome because you all expect him to be Sublime but that's not what he is. If they called themselves something different and then became famous, you guys would love them when you found out that the bassist and drummer were the original band members from Sublime. But it went the other way and now you original fans are giving Rome and Sublime static. I love the album they created, if you forget who plays it, it's fantastic reggae, very upbeat, consistent and well written, but nobody gave them a single chance and now the bassist is quitting. Music is not something to be battled you guys! 6) Sound of Change is so complex and wonderful! Try not to be so close-minded when you listen to the songs. Like I said before, the vocals are the best we've ever seen them here. They keep their original message/attitude of having fun and partying and smoking with songs like Franco Eyed and My Sweet Summer, but for a good half of the album, the Dirty Heads got real. Like, really real. It's incredibly artistic. In songs like End of the World, One Hand, Sound of Change and Dark Days, they paint incredible pictures, tell real stories. Even more so than in the early days with what they did in songs like Driftin', Knows that I, Believe, and Chelsea. Oh God, Chelsea. Chelsea still stands as my favorite song by them of all time. But to add on to the point of them 'growing up', this band is getting more and more serious. They're making songs that pertain more and more to life, making them more meaningful. At the same time, as we hear in this song, they maintain some of the things that made them so great in the beginning, such as Duddy B and Dirty J rapping back and fourth between lines. They did that so well in Got No Time for Y'all, and they did it better here. 7) The entire album is filled with featured artists which is something they've never done before but is making it great, but when one of them is female you 'fans' are going to blow up on them? And I KNOW it's not because she does the entire chorus instead of rapping in a verse, because Rome started that in Lay Me Down and you all ate it up, loved it. 8) Last one. A lot of people like to listen to reggae for the image. People trying to rock the 'stoner' or 'hipster' looks will listen to less popular, upbeat, and chill forms of music also written by hipsters and stoners. Reggae fits that description well, but the Dirty Heads fit that description perfectly. So people who listen to reggae just so they can say they listen to reggae, and get mad when the new stuff isn't all reggae, just stop. Reggae's not a very easy genre to play or maintain (guitar chords are usually strummed on the off notes only, literally the opposite of every other genre, plus soloing is difficult because there's very few specifically reggae guitar scales. Bass has absolutely no guidelines but must fit to make the song. Drums are different from any other genre in that they have to be minimalistic and almost quiet, which Drums are not good at being). However, they have still given you reggae in Radio, Burials and Dark days. Plus, you still have their older reggae songs to go back on. They have so many. Don't tell me you're bored of them. They offer you so much. Welp, there's my rant, sorry it's so long but I've made arguments good enough to write about in college. This is my defense for the Dirty Heads, one of my favorite bands. I'll ask you once again. Why is this song getting so much hate? Why is this ALBUM getting so much hate???
