Prayer
The Disturbed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another dream that will never come true
Just to compliment your sorrow
Another life that I've taken from you
A gift to add on to your pain and suffering
Another truth you can never believe
Has crippled you completely
All the cries you're beginning to hear
Trapped in your mind, and the sound is deafening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way I pray

Living just isn't hard enough
Burn me alive, inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Another nightmare about to come true
Will manifest tomorrow
Another love that I've taken from you
Lost in time, on the edge of suffering
Another taste of the evil I breed
Will level you completely
Bring to life everything that you fear
Live in the dark, and the world is threatening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way i pray

Living just isn't hard enough
Burn me alive, inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Return to me
Leave me no one
Turn to me
Return to me
Cast aside

You've made me turn away

Living just isn't hard enough
Burn me alive, inside

Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Prayer" by The Disturbed explore themes of sorrow, pain, suffering, and the desire for enlightenment. The opening lines suggest that the singer is guilty of something that has caused someone else grief or heartbreak, and although he cannot undo what has been done, he hopes to offer some kind of comfort or solace. The song then progresses to talk about the singer's own struggles, describing his desire to be consumed by fire or have everything taken away from him, as if seeking punishment or redemption for his actions.

The chorus of the song expresses a sentiment of frustration, suggesting that the singer finds life too easy, too dull, or too devoid of meaning. The line "burn me alive, inside" hints at a desire for inner turmoil or passion, whereas "take everything away" suggests a yearning for a clean slate or a fresh start. The second verse introduces the idea of nightmares and evil, and again the singer seems to be both a victim and a perpetrator, caught in a cycle of destruction and despair.

The song ends with a plea for someone to "return" to the singer, or perhaps a lament over the loss of someone who has turned away from him. The repeated line "living just isn't hard enough" emphasizes the singer's dissatisfaction with his own life and his need for something more challenging or meaningful.

@andoryuu3

@Jose Leonardo Lemus: Correct.

I remember hearing David Draiman say the video was supposed to be like a modern twist on Job’s story. I didn’t have high speed internet at the time, so I think I must have learned this from the video content on the Believe CD itself.

Having just read about his early life on Wikipedia, it makes a lot of sense why he would sing about something like this.

I wouldn’t consider myself a huge fan of the band, but I do very much admire David. This and “Liberate” are the two most memorable songs for me. So much wisdom in just two tracks.

Respect.

Vuelve a mĂ, vuelve a mĂ, vuelve a mĂ, vuelve a mĂ, no me dejes a nadie
Volved a mĂ, volved a mĂ, volved a mĂ, echadme a un lado
Vuelve a mĂ, vuelve a mĂ, vuelve a mĂ, vuelve a mĂ, no me dejes a nadie
Volved hacia mí, volved hacia mí, volved hacia mí, me habéis hecho dar la vuelta

Vivir no es lo suficientemente difĂcil
Quemenme vivo adentro
Vivir mi vida no es lo suficientemente difĂcil
Te quitan todas las cosas

Vivir no es lo suficientemente difĂcil
Quemenme vivo adentro
Vivir mi vida no es lo suficientemente difĂcil
Llévate todas las cosas

Metal could use more black representation. There's Skindred at least.

@smokersadvocate2994

@@MuninnMyrkvi agreed...The music industry is ran by greedy bloodsuckers of the poor that wont let that happen they have colonized and conditioned people minds into believing that your race color or creed has direct effect on the taste of music you like...
