Well, show me the way
To the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

Show me the way
To the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

For if we don't find
The next whisky bar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whiskey, oh, you know why

Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

Well, show me the way
To the next little girl
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

Show me the way
To the next little girl
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why

For if we don't find
The next little girl
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die

Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye

We've lost our good old mama
And must have whisky, oh, you know why

Overall Meaning

The Doors' song "Start Show 2" is a melancholic and dark song about someone desperately seeking a way to forget their sorrow and escape their troubles. The singer asks to be shown the way to the next whiskey bar, as drinking is their only means of coping with the loss of a loved one. The phrase "don't ask why" is repeated to highlight the fact that the singer's pain is too great to be explained, and it's better not to question their motives. The stakes in this quest for alcohol are high, as the singer claims that they will die if they don't find the next whiskey bar.

I was at this concert when I was an undergrad at Post. I worked security before the show and got 2 tix. A young lady I was seeing at the time held 2 seats for us, 2nd row center, great seats. During the concert, John Densmore lost a drumstick which flew out into the crowd. I reached up and grabbed it in midair. Cool souvenir, but I gave it to the lady. Probably should have kept it.

What a brilliant comment, Richard!! Sending you a lot of Love and Cheers from Ukraine. Oh.... how I've been loving this band since i fell in love with their music in 1992, aged just twelve! ;-)

Fifty years ago tonight...great to listen to The Doors now!

Richard did you happen to interact with all the artists including Badfinger...what were they like?

@richardd6297

@@paulnyman6739 I did not have a chance to interact with The Doors that evening. I worked as student security for quite a few concerts during my years at Post. The most memorable one was Procol Harum when I worked part of the concert backstage and had time to visit with some of the band members and crew. As they were packing their gear, one of the crew gave me a fairly large 8-panel poster of the band which I had for several years. I had a friend hold it for safekeeping when I moved from the NY area, but sadly no one seems to know whatever happened to it. Was a very nice gesture by the crew member and I regret having let it out of my possession.

@@vano758 Thank you for your very nice comment - I really appreciate it! I have many great memories of working and attending concerts at Post - Beach Boys, Jethro Tull, Leon Russell, Earth, Wind, and Fire just to name a few.

Spettacolare! Get up and dance live first time!

Wonder how many times they had to play without Morrison, when he was still alive - but too unreliable and out of it to get on stage, or even show up to the gig.

Pretty sure these guys were more than prepped to play without him.
