Afterglow
The Driver Era Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It′s how the story goes (it's how the story goes)
Down in Mexico (down in Mexico)
Not that long ago (not that long ago)
We were all alone (we were all alone)

And as my blood is filled with drinks (blood is filled with drinks)
I′m wondering if you could be the one spending all my days
Now my head is filled with dreams (head is filled with dreams)
But yours are only past 17 and our time is overstayed

Oh, no, away she goes, the way she knows
She's leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow
Oh, no, away she goes, the way she knows
She's leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow
Oh, oh no (no, no)
Oh, yeah

Yeah, the water′s cold (yeah, the water′s cold, mm)
But her body's warm (but her body′s warm)
But see, I told her no (see, I told her no)
But she's been here before (she took off her clothes)

And as we′re dancing on the beach (dancing on the beach)
I'm wondering if you could be the one spending all my days
We pretend these stupid things (pretend these stupid things)
′Cause we just want to feel love and leave but our high is bound to fade

Oh, no, away she goes, the way she knows
She's leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow
Oh, no, away she goes, the way she knows
She's leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow

Oh, I think it′s time I told her, these words about her
She knew from the first verse, the memories in Cabo
Away she goes, the way she knows
She′s leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow

Baby, can I kick it with you (with you)
Again sometime? (want to kick it with you)
We'll go back to that place, me and you
We′ll dance all night
With my memories you sleep (memories you sleep)
It's hard to picture your face now that I′m drifting out to sea

Oh, no, away she goes, the way she knows
She's leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow
Oh, no, away she goes, the way she knows
She′s leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow

Oh, oh, I think it's time I told her, that these words about her
She knew from the first verse, the memories in Cabo
Away she goes, the way she knows
She's leaving me in afterglow, in afterglow

Overall Meaning

The song "Afterglow" by The Driver Era tells the story of a fleeting romantic encounter in Mexico. The lyrics reveal the singer's regret as he reflects on the short-lived relationship that he had with his partner. The singer remembers drinking while wondering if his partner would be the one to spend all of his days with. However, his partner's dreams were only past 17, and the singer's time with her was overstayed. Despite this, the couple engages in a romantic dance on the beach, pretending that their love could last. As they part ways, the singer realizes that his partner is leaving him in an afterglow, a warm feeling after a passionate moment.

The song captures the fleeting nature of romance often experienced by people who engage in summer flings. Despite the passionate moments shared, the relationship ends as quickly as it started. The lyrics also suggest that often people engage in romantic relationships just to feel love, but they know deep down that it is bound to fade.

Overall, "Afterglow" by The Driver Era is a catchy song that uses vivid lyrics that capture the essence of summer love in Mexico.

Afterglow letra

Así es como se termina la historia
abajo en México
No hace tanto tiempo

Unpopular opinion. I think they're better as the driver era. R5 wasn't mature enough for them and the driver era is a new more mature era. They started R5 when they were teenagers and now they're all over 21 and need something more mature. This fits so well, I am very sad that all 5 of them aren't the driver era but this is amazing regardless.

HershBoy TV

That's why they started the driver era but they said the putting a ''hold'' on R5

edgy spider guy

Also, i think they were signed with disney so they wouldnt have been able to release more mature stuff.

Abisola Ologbenla

they all practically are the Driver Era, they're touring and all of them played at the concert.
