I moved to Sydney in '93 from Melbourne, which has (had) a really good live band scene and met some people that were into Electronic music. I was all 'that fake and repetitive stuff sounds all the same to me'. Over the next few years I was introduced to "The Chemical Brothers", "Leftfield", "Underworld", "Apollo 440", "Death in Vegas", 'The KLF", "The Prodigy", "PWEI" etc and was blown away (especially after several dance parties where my flatmates, 3 girls, would wear panty hose covered coat hangers as fairy wings) and was blown away.

I thought "I really must find similar bands from the past 10 years", but quickly realised I was in an electronic "Golden Age". I don't know if it was because I was getting older, but the 90's were amazing and I don't think there has been a similar number of quality acts in the following decades (correct me if I am wrong because I am out of the loop with regards to music from the last few years).

Come to think of it, even acts from other genres were amazing in the 90's, "The Jesus and Mary Chain", "My Bloody Valentine", "Medicine", "Bowery Electric", "Stone Roses", "Happy Mondays", "Spiritualized", "Curve", "Lush", "Cocteau Twins" etc and I honestly did not have enough time to listen to all of my favourite bands.

Even the local Melbourne/Australian scene produced some (I believe) world class bands like 'TISM', 'The Meanies', 'Sidewinder', 'Deadstar', 'Regurgitator', 'Gerling', 'Underground Lovers', 'Single Gun Theory', Frente (I know, I know, but I liked them), 'Spiderbait', 'Magic Dirt' etc etc.

Yep, the 90's were an AMAZING decade for music.

While I was reminiscing writing this post, I was reminded this funny story of Flea flipping his mind after hearing 'TISM's 'He'll never be an old man river' and demanded to know the identities of the band members (they play in ski masks because some of them are school teachers). I think he even tried to get them booted from the BDO lineup LOL

Just purchased an original 12" of this. Glorious

Darren (Emerson) gave me the acetate test pressing of this. It's possibly the only acetate in existence. I used to be the lighting twat at Back to Basics in Leeds. Darren knew I loved his stuff. I can't play the thing obviously, so I bought another two copies as well.
