The band's name derives from banjoist Leonard Podolak's earlier band Scruj MacDuhk (pronounced Scrugg MachDuke). MacDuhk was a warrior chieftain who fought with William Wallace, resisting English occupation of Scotland, during the reign of King Edward I. The entire name is a wordplay on the Disney character Scrooge McDuck created by Carl Barks.
In March of 2007 lead singer and budding songwriter Jessee Havey left the band to pursue other interests. Singer Sarah Dugas joined the band in July of 2007 and is on the road with The Duhks.
In late 2007, percussionist Scott Senior left the band to spend more time with his family, as his partner, Tara Beckta, was expecting their second child. Christian Dugas, Sarah's brother and a former bandmate of Leonard Podolak, has since joined The Duhks. Other members are fiddler Tania Elizabeth and guitarist Jordan McConnell.
In October 2007 The Duhks Sustainability Project http://www.greenduhks.com was launched to raise awareness about ways to live a more economically-viable and ecologically-sustainable lifestyle. In April 2008, The Duhks performed a post Earth Day benefit in Nederland, Colorado.
In spring 2016, the band announced that they would no longer be touring. They have not released any new music since 2014.

Smite your rod and come across | In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses take my hand | In that red sea
Take me out of Egypt land | In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses part the waters | In that red sea
Take us to the lands of our fathers | In that red sea
Don't you hear those horses running | In that red sea
Promised land is just across | Across that red sea
Moses, Moses don't get lost | In that red sea
Stop and talk about your host got lost, got lost, got lost
Talkin' about your host got lost | In that red sea
Stop and talk about your host got lost, got lost, got lost
Talkin' about your host got lost | In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses, don't get lost | In that red sea
Smite your rod and come across | In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses, don't get lost | In that red sea
Smite your rod and come across | In that red sea
Yeah, ol Pharoah and the host got lost, got lost, got lost
Pharoah and the host got lost| In that red sea
Yeah, ol Pharoah and the host got lost, got lost, got lost
Pharoah and the host got lost| In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses, don't get lost | In that red sea
Smite your rod and come across | In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses, don't get lost | In that red sea
Smite your rod and come across | In that red sea
Oh Moses, Moses, don't get lost | In that red sea

The lyrics of The Duhks' song "Moses Don't Get Lost" are a call to Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Red Sea to the promised land. The song is based on the biblical story of Exodus, where Moses receives a message from God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. He uses his rod to part the Red Sea, enabling the Israelites to cross it safely while Pharoah and his army are defeated by the waters. The song emphasizes the urgency of the situation, with Pharoah's army approaching and the promised land just across the sea. Moses is urged to act quickly and not get lost, lest the Israelites be left to suffer further in Egypt.
The lyrics are straightforward and repetitive, conveying a sense of urgency and the need for action. The repeated refrain of "Moses, Moses, don't get lost" emphasizes the importance of leadership and direction in difficult situations. The use of imagery from the Exodus story, such as the smiting of the rod, the horses running, and the promised land, adds depth and richness to the song. Overall, the lyrics of "Moses Don't Get Lost" offer a powerful retelling of the biblical story of Exodus, highlighting the importance of leadership, faith, and perseverance in times of hardship.
