Autumn
The Edgar Winter Group Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Autumn, the wind blows colder than summer.....
Autumn, my love's gone with another.....

I can't demand anything of myself now.....
So I guess I'll stay here in New England, for Autumn.
Buildings look tall and gray.....
Birds flying, haven't much to say.....
They all know that it's coming again.....
So I guess they'll stay here in New England, for Autumn,Autumn.....
Have you ever loved something, that you thought you knew?
Have you ever lost someone, who was close to you?
Well I lost my lover..... and my summer too.....
To Autumn, the wind blows colder than summer.....
Autumn, my love's gone with another.....

I can't demand anything of myself now.....

So I guess I'll stay here in New England, For Autumn,Autumn.....
AUTUMN..........

Overall Meaning

The lyrics above are from the song called "Autumn" by The Edgar Winter Group. The song is about the feelings of loss and nostalgia that come with the change of seasons from summer to autumn. As the wind blows colder and the trees change colors, the singer reflects on the loss of their lover and the end of their summer. They feel powerless to change what has happened and instead choose to remain in New England, where the autumn is a reminder of both their past love and the passing of time.

The song captures the melancholic mood of autumn and the beauty that comes with change. The buildings that once looked vibrant in the summer now appear tall and gray, and the birds seem to be flying without a destination. The singer feels a sense of unity with the natural world, as everything prepares for the coming of winter.

The chorus repeats the line "Autumn, my love's gone with another", emphasizing the feelings of heartbreak and loss that often come with the end of a relationship. The singer is resigned to the fact that they can't change what has happened, and so they remain in New England, where the autumn is a reminder of their past love.

Overall, "Autumn" is a poignant and reflective song that captures the feelings of nostalgia and loss that often accompany the change of seasons.

Oh my God takes me back to 72. I remember purchasing this album, my best friend was with me. We both fell in love with this song. Now I’m 60, still listening to good classic rock ‘n’ roll. I dedicate this to my best friend is fighting for her life right now. May God‘s will be done. I will miss you Debi, and I will never forget all the fun we had as grown adults and children. I love you girl! 1972-2021. We were 12 years old when we met. I’ll never forget you.

Well my dad died of colon cancer when I was 3 years old, he was only 27 years old.....And this was the song my Mom would always cry to when she played it cause it made her think of my Dad.....My mom died 9 years ago of alcoholism, but for being a alcoholic she was still a good Mom. Love You Mom & Dad

I'm sorry you've had so much sadness. My mom lost her way for years too. Her and dad are both gone now but time moves on and just remember the good times and they did try. Peace to you ♥️

My folks drank more than they should of also. They were great people without the booze though.

And to think, alcohol is the accepted vice of western culture.

“Reefer Madness” must be stopped at all costs..........right?
