The Mirror
The European Chorus & Orchestra Lyrics

Cos when I look at you all I see is a reflection
There must be a mirror between us
Cos when I look at you all I see is a reflection
I wanted you to reach out and touch me
I wanted you to reach out and touch me
There must be an ocean between us
Cos when I look at you all I see is the horizon
There must be an ocean between us
Cos when I look at you all I see is the horizon
I wanted to appear on the surface
I wanted to appear on the surface
I wanted you to ... appear on the surface
There must be a shadow between us
Cos when I look at you all I see is an empty space
There must be a shadow between us
Cos when I look at you I don't see anything at all
I want to trace your line through the abyss
I want to trace your line through the abyss
I wanted you to ... chase my mind through the abyss
The song "The Mirror" by The European Chorus & Orchestra explores the theme of distance and separation between two individuals. The repetition of the line "There must be a mirror between us" conveys the idea that there is a barrier or obstacle preventing a deeper connection. The mirror represents a reflection, symbolizing the inability to truly see and understand each other.
The longing for intimacy and emotional connection is expressed through the repeated desire for the other person to "reach out and touch" in the first verse. This highlights the singer's yearning for physical and emotional closeness, but the presence of the mirror suggests that this desire remains unfulfilled.
In the second verse, the lyrics shift to the image of an ocean between the two individuals. The horizon becomes the only visible point of reference, indicating a vast distance and a lack of tangible connection. The singer expresses their wish to "appear on the surface," suggesting a desire to be seen and recognized by the other person. However, the mirror-like barrier continues to separate them.
The third verse introduces the idea of a shadow between the two individuals, emphasizing the sense of emptiness and nonexistence. The singer acknowledges that when they look at the other person, they see nothing at all. The desire to "trace your line through the abyss" conveys an urgency to understand and explore the depths of the other person's being. The repetition of the line "I wanted you to chase my mind through the abyss" intensifies this longing for a connection that transcends the barriers keeping them apart.
Overall, "The Mirror" portrays a longing for connection and understanding that is hindered by various barriers. The repeated lines and imagery emphasize the frustration and yearning felt by the singer, as they hope for a deeper bond with the other person but find themselves separated by a mirror, an ocean, and a shadow.

Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee
E'en though it be a cross
That raiseth me
There let the way appear
Steps unto heav'n
All that Thou sendest me
In mercy giv'n
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee
Though like the wanderer
The sun gone down
Darkness be over me
My rest a stone
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee
Or, if on joyful wing
Cleaving the sky
Sun, moon, and stars forgot
Upward I fly

That's the difference with Jesus, Jan. Our works can not get us into heaven. In God's sight our own works apart from Him are as filthy rags. This is why we need a personal relationship with God, to repent of anything He calls sin and accept His gift on the cross of forgiveness and eternal life. No one that believes and trusts in Jesus will ever see death.
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
He is the truth, there is no other way. Please pray to God with all your heart and ask Him to reveal His truth to you. God bless you in Jesus name.
