Choice
The Ex Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're faced with facts you don't wanna even
Think twice about
You're ready to holler out

It's makes you squeam in torrential rain
Walking a runaway
Walking a runaway
You can choose your friends
You can choose your best of friend
But they'll cross you
In loss you're nodding at them

Said to talking head
It's a wonder how you still appear
When you're gone
It's gross fear for those in the near

As apt you are incomplete my son
Laughing the hard way
Laughing the hard way

It's makes you squeeem in your choice of friends
Walking a runaway
Walking a runaway

In high esteem we can't let you down
It feels good

It's seals tight
You know it's alright

Overall Meaning

In the song "Choice" by The Ex, the lyrics depict a sense of confrontation and introspection. The opening lines suggest that the singer is faced with uncomfortable truths or realities that they would rather avoid acknowledging. They are reluctant to confront these facts, but eventually reach a breaking point where they can no longer hold back their emotions, indicated by the line "You're ready to holler out."

The following lines express a feeling of discomfort or unease, comparing it to standing in torrential rain and walking on a runaway path. This imagery emphasizes the idea of being caught in a difficult situation that feels out of control. The repetition of this phrase indicates that the singer may be stuck in a pattern of making choices that lead to these uncomfortable situations.

The lyrics then mention the ability to choose friends, highlighting the significance of personal relationships. However, it suggests that even these close connections can betray or disappoint us, as indicated by the line "But they'll cross you, in loss you're nodding at them." This line suggests a sense of resignation or acceptance of being let down by those closest to us.

The song concludes with lines that convey a sense of detachment or distance. It mentions someone who appears even when they are gone, which may symbolize a lingering impact or presence. The mention of "gross fear for those in the near" implies that this individual's absence instills a sense of discomfort or anxiety in others.

Overall, "Choice" explores themes of avoidance, betrayal, and the consequences of our decisions on our relationships.

This song is a banger.

Extended versions of popular songs are extraordinary, as these introduce new melodies and make the creator experiment further with a song. Sure, the song may be incredibly long, but that's the point of an extension: "to be extended" or "increase in length".

The original Options was already fantastic enough, as it just makes you think of several realities or settings that the atmosphere of this song creates. Options EX double downs, and it feels like a dream everytime I think of a BGA for this.
Frums did an amazing job on this, I hope they continue making incredible music for all of us to enjoy.
