Two Weeks
The Excentrics Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Close your eyes imagine I'm together
Before I fall apart
Before I'm close enough
All this time I thought that I was better
I opened up my heart
The problem is my mouth won't shut

And the world turned 28 times
In 14 days and nights
And I sure messed up my life in two weeks

Spread me out and lay me on the table
I know it won't be bad
But I'm sure it won't be great
All this time I thought that I was able
But everything I had
Was everything you love to hate

And the world turned 28 times
In 14 days and nights
And I sure messed up my life in two weeks
Two weeks

It seemed impossible, so impossible to do now
Was impossible
Somehow I'm stuck with you

And the world turned 28 times
In 14 days and nights
And I sure messed up your life in two weeks
Can I mess up your life
And the world
And the world

And the world
And the world

Overall Meaning

The Excentrics' song Two Weeks seems to be about a person who feels that they are falling apart and trying to salvage their relationship. The lyrics suggest that the person is aware of their shortcomings and bad habits, but they are still trying to keep up the façade that everything is okay between them and their partner. They fear that if they open up too much, their partner will see their flaws and ultimately leave them. The line "Before I fall apart, before I'm close enough" talks about how they are trying to hold themselves together and not let their relationship crumble, but they are not sure if they can anymore.

The chorus, "And the world turned 28 times, in 14 days and nights," illustrates how time always seems to be moving too fast and how their relationship has deteriorated rapidly over a short period. The lines "All this time I thought that I was able, but everything I had was everything you love to hate," suggests that they were being their true selves all along, but their partner did not like that and preferred them to put up a façade. The bridge of the song talks about how they are stuck with their partner, even if it feels impossible to make things work. The final lines of the song talk about how they hope to not only fix their relationship but change the world around them.

Ice Karma

My favourite band that you'll never have heard of, and never will... =/

FIRST OF THE MONTH CLUB

I had the pleasure of booking this band and shopping them a bit. NEVER EVER EVER understood how this song didn't hit! This was a very early "basement recording" from mid 90s digital age btw. Todd Wright most brilliant songwriter I have ever known that didn't become a household name, though he did get a hit with Celine Dion which is odd, but good for him.

Tawny Woodchucker

I used to go see them at the Star bar on Tue. nights. good times.

Ken Deater

I was lucky to see them live several times in Northern Virginia (Fairfax county) in the late 90s.  They were really, REALLY good live!   Its a shame they didn't become huge.

TJH 1971

This album is perfect! Thanks so much for posting!!
