The band consists of Clark Baechle, Todd Fink (formerly known as Todd Baechle), and Joel Petersen. They signed to Saddle Creek Records and released a few singles, but were unable to establish widespread sales, though they were extremely popular in the Omaha-area. After adding Matt Bowen, The Faint released Media, which established them within a small, national community of fans. While touring, Bowen left and was replaced by Jacob Thiele who helped move the next album, Blank-Wave Arcade, towards a more dance and electronica influenced sound. The album was an underground hit. Partway through the creation of the morose Danse Macabre, The Faint added Dapose, a death metal guitarist formerly of LEAD. Danse Macabre was also a critical and commercial success and has helped to establish a wider fanbase for the band. Their 4th album, released in 2004, is called Wet from Birth.
In 2002 bassist Joel Petersen released the first album from his solo project, Broken Spindles, and he has since released two subsequent albums and had a U.S. tour. Guitarist Dapose also has a side-project, Vverevvolf Grehv, releasing his first album in 2008.
On December 12th, 2005, The Faint announced that they have moved out of The Orifice (a rented out warehouse they used to record Wet from Birth) and into ENAMEL, a 100-year-old building where they recorded the tracks for their next album, Fasciinatiion.

Disappear
The Faint Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I lost control
My body's moving
On it's own
I watch myself
Walk away
A poor spirit
Took my place
And he's there
Inside the door
So my exits is
Riding my pulse
Burst of black
Breath of smoke
I disappear
I lost control
I
I disappear
I disappear
I disappear
I disappear
I lost control
My body's moving
On it's own
I watch myself
Walk away
A poor spirit
Took my place
I
I disappear
I disappear
I disappear
How could I resist
It's all I've wanted
I guess now I've got it
Why it had been back, don't know
I hope this doesn't last forever
I, disappear
I disappear
I disappear
I disappear
The Faint's song "Disappear" is a haunting track that grapples with the concept of losing control over oneself. The lyrics describe a feeling of being disconnected from one's body, as if watching oneself from a detached perspective. The singer feels as though they are not fully in control, driven by some unseen force that manifests as a "poor spirit" taking their place. The imagery in the song is dark and unsettling, with references to bursts of black and breaths of smoke, indicating a sense of suffocation or impending doom.
There is a sense of resignation in the chorus, as the singer repeats "I disappear" several times, as though accepting their fate. The bridge provides some insight into why the singer might feel this way, suggesting that they had been striving for something but are now experiencing regret or uncertainty, hoping that their current state is not permanent.
Overall, "Disappear" is a powerful exploration of the human psyche, particularly our relationship with control and agency. It is a deeply introspective song that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt disconnected from themselves or their surroundings.

I disappear,
I lost control,
My body's moving,
All on it's own.
I watch myself,
Walk away,
A foreign spirit,
Took my place.
An empty stare,
Its eyes are dull,
So my essence, it's riding my pulse.
A Burst of black,
A Breath of smoke.
I disappeared,
I lost control.
I,
I disappear(x3)
I disappear,
I lost control,
My body's moving,
All on it's own.
I watch myself,
Walk away,
A foreign spirit,
Took my place.
I,
I disappear(x3)
How could I resist,
It's all I've wan-
Ted now I guess I've got it.
Why it happened, I don't know,
Hope this doesn't last forever.
I, disappear(x4)

The Faint are some great dudes, back in the myspace days of adding people a 15 year old me sent the band a salty message about not adding me as a friend ( probably flooded w/ requests) and these guys sent me out some merch and a CD because they felt bad!! legends!!

That's a cool story! I remember first hearing about them on that game Dropkick the Faint. It must've been back in 2006 or something like that.

They were awesome, and the Todds often went to the Run, Nifty's, and Rose in Omaha. Todd (the singer) and I made out a few times. was way too blasted to remember much else, but they are awesome, fs

Such an underrated band, and I hate using that word to describe artists. I just wish they made more music videos, every album of theirs has so many good tunes.

At their concerts back in the day each song they’d play would have cool projections playing that gave it a similarly disjointed feeling like the music video. Really fun!
