All Together Now
The Farm Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Remember boy, that your forefather's died
Lost in millions for a country's pride
Never mention the trenches of Belgium
When they stopped fighting and they were one

A spirit stronger than war was at work that night
December 1914 cold, clear and bright
Countries' borders were right out of sight
They joined together and decided not to fight

All together now, all together now
All together now in no man's land (together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)

The same old story again
All those tears shed in vain
Nothing learnt and nothing gained
Only hope remains

All together now, all together now
All together now in no man's land (together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)
All together now in no man's land (together)
All together now (all together now), all together now (all together now)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)
All together now (all together), all together now (all together)

The boys had their say, they said no (all together now)
Stop the slaughter, let's go home
Let's go, let's go (all together now)
Let's go (all together now), let's go, let's go
The boys had their say, they said no (all together now)
Stop the slaughter, let's go home
Let's go, let's go (all together now)
Let's go (all together now), let's go home
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)
All together now (all together now), all together now (all together)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)

All together now (all together, all together)
All together now (all together now)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together, together)
The boys had their say, they said no (all together now)
Stop the slaughter, let's go home
Let's go, let's go (all together now)
Let's go (all together now)
The boys had their say, they said no
Stop the slaughter, let's go home
Let's go, let's go
Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go

All together now (all together, all together)
All together now (all together now)
All together now (together, together)
In no man's land (together now)
All together now

Overall Meaning

The Farm's song All Together Now is a powerful anthem for peace and unity. The lyrics begin with a reminder of the sacrifice of previous generations, who lost many lives for their country's pride. The referenced trenches in Belgium allude to the violence and horror of World War I. However, the song takes a turn towards hope and solidarity with the story of the Christmas truce in December 1914. Soldiers from opposing sides put down their weapons and gathered in no man's land, united by a spirit stronger than war. The chorus encourages us to join together in the same way, all together now, and to work towards a better future together.

Still a wonderful song and unfortunately increasingly relevant again. Also for us here in Europe! Thank you, Peter and Stephen. Let's hope that all the evils of the past don't start again now. We humans are obviously just too stupid and don't learn anything from the past.

Rockin' greetzzzzzzzz to all of you and thank you for this wonderful part of our journey together through life in the 1990s. I really often think back to our great time. By the way, we still exist as a hidden Intercord/EMI group on Facebook. And we continue to actively fight for a better and more peaceful world.

With that in mind, I wish you and everyone else here a peaceful and happy 2024. Have fun and a wonderful New Year!

And now let the music take over the spoken word again: All together now, all together now....
