The W.A.N.D.
The Flaming Lips Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

(You've got the power in there, waving your wand in the air

Time after time those fanatical minds try to rule all the world
Telling us all it's them who's in charge of it all
I've got a tricked out magic stick that will make them all fall
We've got the power now, motherfuckers, that's where it belongs

You've got that right
(Power in there)
You know that it's
(Wand in the air)

They've got their weapons to solve all their questions, they don't know what it's for
('Cause they don't know what it's for)
Why can't they see it's not power, just greed, to just want more and more?
(Just want more and more)
I got a plan and it's here in my hand but it's all made of rights
We're the enforcers, the sorcerer's orphans, and we know why we fight
(And we know why we fight)

You've got that right
(You've got the power in there)
(Waving your wand in the air)

(You've got the power in there)
(You've got the power in there)
(You've got the power in there)
(Waving your wand in the air)

You've got that right
You know that it's

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Flaming Lips's song The W.A.N.D. have a political and social commentary theme as they talk about those in power, who they perceive as fanatical minds, trying to rule the world by using their weapons to solve all their problems but not seeing that it's not about power, only wanting more and more. The singer has a tricked out magic stick that will make all those in power fall and claims that they have the power now, where it belongs. They also claim to have a plan in their hand made of rights and that they are the enforcers, the sorcerer's orphans, and they know why they fight. The main theme of the song is that power belongs to the people, and it's important to challenge those in power who act on their greed and want for more, as opposed to acting for the betterment of society.

The song was released in 2006, and it has a unique sound that blends psychedelic rock, indie rock, and electronic music. The title The W.A.N.D. stands for The Will Always Negates Defeat, and it's a recurring theme throughout the song. The song was released as part of the album At War With The Mystics, which was received with critical acclaim.

This song is killer...excellent lyrics, manically memorable hook, just magical (sic)

@malaktaus

This song, along with most of their music, totally kicks ass. I used to listen to it while tripping, but I can no longer listen to any music while tripping. There was an unfortunate incident involving way too much mescaline, a Salvador Dali print, a plastic army gun target, and a Bob Dylan cover by Nick Cave. A many-armed Buddha told me it was a bad idea, but I didn't listen. Remember: if Buddha appears out of an endless void and offers advice, always take it.

@carlobarrera6344

hope Buddha stopped mocking you after that

@NelliumTheFisherman

There's only one word to describe this song: badass.
