IKEA Did A Job On You
The Floor Is Made of Lava Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I know I cheated but it's not like I knew
Yeah, I'm a robber man but you're hard as steal
IKEA did a job on you
You could bring tomatoes and eggs
Or whatever's in your fridge past due
I'd still be cracking jokes bout your ex
IKEA did a job on you
All you gotta do is drugs
Fuck with me on this one and I'll fuck you right up
All you gotta do is drugs
I see you swaying but you don't feel my love
All you gotta do is drugs, baby
All you gotta do is fuck with me on this one
And I'll fuck you right up
The Floor is Made of Lava's song "IKEA Did A Job On You" is a brazen and cheeky song with some energetic punk rock beats. The lyrics talk about how the singer's partner has changed and become harder and tougher, almost invincible like steal. The singer realizes that all of it is thanks to the influence of IKEA, which has equipped her partner to a point where not even tomatoes and eggs could hurt her.
The first verse of the song is particularly interesting as it contrasts two seemingly opposite things, braces and beers. The braces imply youthfulness and innocence, while beers suggest revelry and mischief. The line "I know I cheated but it's not like I knew" suggests that the singer was unaware of the consequences of what he did to his partner, and was so oblivious that he now cannot recognize her.
The second verse, in contrast to the first, is more aggressive and blunt. Here, the singer urges his partner to submit to drugs, saying that it is the only way to experience true love. The line "I see you swaying but you don't feel my love" suggests that his partner is already high or perhaps just hypnotized, and it will take more than just drugs to reach her.
Overall, the song can be seen as a humorous and playful commentary on how IKEA's strong wood and steel furniture can toughen someone up and make them almost invincible. It is also a critique of the consumerist culture that the Swedish furniture giant symbolizes.
