Say
The Foster Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the trains to carry heavy loads
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark
This is a man's, a man's, a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

Man thinks about a little baby girls and a baby boys
Man makes then happy 'cause man makes them toys
And after man has made everything, everything he can
You know that man makes money to buy from other man

This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

He's lost in the wilderness
He's lost in bitterness

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Foster's song "Say" speak to the significance of women in a man's world. The song begins by acknowledging that historically, society has been dominated by men, symbolized by the line "This is a man's world." However, the subsequent line, "But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl," highlights the indispensable role that women play in shaping and enriching the world.

The following verses delve into specific examples of how men have contributed to society, such as creating cars, trains, electric light, and boats. These inventions represent man's ability to conquer challenges and improve life's circumstances. However, the mention of Noah's ark serves as a reminder that, even in a man's world, humanity owes its existence and salvation to a woman.

The chorus reiterates the message that as significant as men's contributions may be, they are incomplete without the presence and influence of women. The final lines of the song, "He's lost in the wilderness, He's lost in bitterness," suggest that without acknowledging and appreciating women, men may find themselves disconnected from their own humanity and purpose.

Overall, "Say" by The Foster's encourages listeners to recognize and value the contributions and importance of women in a man's world, reminding us that true progress and fulfillment come from collaboration and inclusivity.

Tell that to the politicians

@SurvivorOfChildAbuse886

I was in foster care for almost 2 years. Unfortunately this kind of thing happens on the daily and case workers look the other way because of the overwhelming need to foster homes in the USA. You think using these kids for cash is bad it is but the fact that some foster kids don’t get the support from the government it need leads them to walk around in old torn clothes shoes that don’t fit because the vouchers we get are not enough in today’s rising economy. The only hope foster kids have is being placed with a family member, being adopted and the less likely scenario politicians, taking notice.

@@FXCKYOU209 Well what do you expect? When they’re running millions of people and they’re all multi millionaires often from wealthy families it’s hard for them to feel any actual sympathy for normal people.
