The Frames have been together since 1990 and are a survivor of Dublin's prolific early 90's rock and roll scene. They have also been essential in the development of the current crop of emerging Irish rock bands, such as Turn. The Frames have toured with various other Irish artists, including Damien Rice and Bell X1. In December 2004, Hansard appeared on stage in a collaboration with singer songwriter Paddy Casey.
The name The Frames reportedly arose from Hansard's habit, at a young age, of fixing the bicycles of many of his friends. The large number of bicycle frames lying around his house led neighbours to dub it the "house with the frames".
Their new, 6th studio album, The Cost, is available in Ireland since 22 September 2006 and worldwide since 20 February 2007.
Lead singer Hansard recently collaborated with Czech musician Markéta Irglová, which led to the solo album "The Swell Season". Glen and Markéta also star and perform in the John Carney movie Once (www.oncethemovie.com). The movie received several awards including the World Cinema Audience Award - Dramatic at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival as well as an Oscar for best Song for the track "Falling Slowly".
On several occasions the members of The frames appear on stage during the Swell season gigs.

Bad Bone
The Frames Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All my troubles started there
And all the cracks are adding up to be
A little more than you can bare
When I met you, you were bitter still
From a scar you're never gonna show
And I was cursed with a jealousy
That's killed every love I've ever known
When the anger that you feel
Turns to poison in your soul
Then the scars you only feel
Will start to show
You were naked on the balcony
And I was waiting in your bed
You said I pleased you only partially
But I knew my hunger would be fed
And all my thoughts of going clear
And getting out before my time
Have died with you upon the vine
Have died with you upon the vine
To die with you upon the vine
To die with you
So if you'll lead the way
The Frames' "Bad Bone" is a poignant ballad that delves into the complexities of love and how one's personal baggage -- or "bad bone" -- can dramatically affect the relationships they have with others. The song's lyrics are overflowing with raw emotion as the singer delves into their own struggles with jealousy and mistrust, and how these issues have impacted their past relationships. The singer's own "bad bone" is contrasted with their lover's emotional scars, which they are unable to communicate as they are also plagued by their own personal issues.
The opening stanza sets the tone for the song's introspective look at love and its many complications. The singer admits that their own "bad bone" is the root of their struggles in love, and that their past relationships have been damaged by it. The second stanza recounts a moment of vulnerability with their current lover, where they reveal their own insecurities and hunger for affection. The final stanza is where the song reaches its climax, as the singer realizes that their dreams of leaving and starting fresh have died with their current partner.
Overall, "Bad Bone" is a masterfully crafted song that captures the intense feelings of heartbreak and emotional turmoil that people can experience in complicated relationships. The song's poignant lyrics are complimented by the beautiful instrumentation on the track, making it a must-listen for anyone who enjoys introspective, emotional ballads.

You were naked on the balcony
You were vulnerable and exposed
And I was waiting in your bed
I was eagerly anticipating intimacy with you
You said I pleased you only partially
You were not fully satisfied with our encounter
But I knew my hunger would be fed

And all my thoughts of going clear
All my desires to leave and start anew
And getting out before my time
And escaping before it's too late
Have died with you upon the vine
Have ended with the loss of our relationship
To die with you upon the vine
To fade away along with the memory of our love
To die with you
To succumb to the pain of losing you
So if you'll lead the way
If you'll show me the path to healing

Obsessed with this song for a long time. Still one of my favorites. Third-most played on my iTunes. Had to learn it on guitar too (not that it's hard, exactly). Just grand in every way.
