Night To Day
The Freddy Jones Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Cows are standing in the fields today
The sun it shines there'll be no rain
A mile or more were on our way
Traffic slows to a crawl

Running out of jokes to tell
Windows fog as wheels they roll
Aces wild as daylight fell
Eye lids faded long ago

Some say a silly road we take
Full of bumps we travel on
This widespread love is no mistake
Ideas we've chosen can't be wrong

We drive from night to day
We drive from day to night

Overall Meaning

The Freddy Jones Band's song Night To Day depicts a road trip through a countryside on a bright day, where cows are seen sprinkled across the lush green fields. The sun is out and there are no hints of a storm. The journey began with miles ahead to cover, but gradually the traffic slows down, and the travelers are running out of jokes to tell. The windows start to fog up as the wheels roll, and there is a calming sense of familiarity in the trip as the travelers have been on this route before, with the same lovely scenery to enjoy.

As the day progresses and evening sets in, the travelers are left with fading eyelids, and the tires continue to roll, going bump after bump on the silly road. Yet, despite the weariness, there is something special about this journey. According to the lyrics, "This widespread love is no mistake, ideas we've chosen can't be wrong." There is a notion of treasuring the road taken despite the challenges and uncertainties along the way.

The song speaks to the journey of life. It often has bumps and unexpected turns, but it is important to embrace every step because it is the journey that builds character and endurance. It is not enough to merely coast through life; instead, we must savor each adventure and learn from our mistakes.

This is what an endless summer day sounds like...

@laurarominger2073

Heard it just last Sunday on the Bloomington station in Indiana. College station. How I first listened to the band. Sunny beautiful fall day. Had to sit in my car awhile to listen at my moms. Too bad radio stations never play new music like they did back then.

@Cooldad24

Omg yes I am from Bloomington.
Thank you Love❤

This song reminds me of my precious time when living as a graduate student in San Diego, CA, in 1993 and 94. A FM radio station there always played this song. I wonder why this song didn't become a hit song then. A beautiful and powerful song

@garthfarkley

I still don't understand it.

My connection is very similar. I was a grad student in Tucson, AZ, and loved hearing this song at night in the summer with my third-floor apartment door open to the desert air. It took me years to find it again with just a few of the words coming to mind. Rey-shii when I did.

@@ShunyamNiketana It sounds like this song has had a profound effect on many people. For me it was when I was in the Navy and stationed in Virginia in 1996. It used to play on the radio and it really set the tone for that period of time in my life. It's one of those songs that just makes you feel like everything is going to be alright.
