Chasing A Rock Star
The Friday Night Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I bet you think it's the last time.
Your head is spinning and you wonder why.
He's not missing you.
But don't take my word, do what you want to.

You're chasing a rockstar,
But where will you go?
You're chasing him too far,
The way you move so slow.
Ypu swear you're innocent.
But I know that you'll regret
Chasing a rockstar, now.
Get over yourself.

You wanna take a chance.
But you keep thinking it will end in romance.
He's not missing you.
But don't take my word, do what you want to.
I guess now it's up to you.

You're chasing a rockstar,
But where will you go?
You're chasing him too far,
The way you move a slow.
You swear you're innocent.
But I know that you'll regret
Chasing a rockstar, now.
Get over yourself.

Why can't you stay right where you are?
You're losing track of me so let's start this over tonight.
Give up your dreams and say goodbye.

(Chasin' a rockstar)

Chasing a rockstar
But where will you go?
You're chasing him too far,
The way you move so slow.
You swear you're innocent
But I know that you'll regret
Chasing a rockstar, now.
Get over yourself.

Chasng a rockstar,
You're chasing a rockstar, now.

Get over yourself.
Get over yourself.

Overall Meaning

The Friday Night Boys's song Chasing A Rock Star is a cautionary tale about a girl who is chasing after a rock star, even though he is not interested in her. The girl is oblivious to the fact that she is being toyed with and believes that he will eventually fall in love with her. The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone who knows that the girl is making a mistake but cannot convince her to stop.

The first verse suggests that the girl has continued to pursue the rock star even though he has not reciprocated her feelings. The line "He's not missing you" implies that he is not interested in her and is not thinking about her. However, the girl is so infatuated with him that she cannot see this. The second verse acknowledges that the girl is aware of the situation but still wants to take a chance on him. The line "I guess now it's up to you" suggests that the singer has given up trying to convince the girl to stop chasing after the rock star.

The chorus, "You're chasing a rockstar, but where will you go?" and "the way you move so slow" suggests that the girl's chase is heading towards a dead end. The line "get over yourself" indicates that the singer believes that the girl is putting herself on a pedestal and needs to come back to reality. The bridge points out that the singer is willing to start over from the beginning to help the girl understand the error of her ways.
