1. A Philadelphia soul group. The group's got harmony chops that are plenty strong -- with an ability to hit both a sweet soul sound and a deeper righteous groove that was being used by some of the funkier groups at the time. The Futures made a poor career move when Gamble Records ended up signing with Buddah Records, thus missing a golden opportunity to join Philadelphia International Records. Without the major label support that Philadelphia had to offer bands like the O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes, and the Stylistics, the band failed to reap the benefits of their productions.
2. Self described funk thrash from Japan.
3. A pop-punk band from the UK.
Kiss and Say Goodbye
The Futures Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
I smoke another twenty cigarettes
Before I close my eyes
If I'm up past midnight
Might have a chance to say, "Good morning"
Right before I cut the light
When I wake up at dawn
I reach across the void, just hoping
And then the evening's mine
And I can finally say, "I love you"
Right before I say, "Goodnight"
Oh why, oh why
Do I even try?
When I don't wanna say goodnight
And every day without you feels one closer to goodbye
I just need to make this world seem right
You just sleep tight 'til I'm on your side
Know you need to go to sleep
There's comfort knowing that at least you can escape this heat
I'll sit up and watch this world burn bright
I'll be alright
When you're on my time
They didn't change the date
That's another month to wait
It's another month to try
To hold on to a lie
Oh why, oh why (oh why, oh why)
Do I even try?
Every other girl
We'd just cut the line
But I don't wanna say goodnight
Is every day without you feels one closer to goodbye?
I just need to make this world seem right
You can sleep tight 'til I'm on your side
When you finally go to sleep
There's comfort knowing that
At least you can escape this heat
I'll sit up and watch, this world's on fire
I'll be alright
When you're on my time
You're on my time
When you're on my time
When you're on my time
You're on my time
You're on my time
You're on my time
You're on my time
Whoa, you're on my time
Whoa, you're on my time
Oh, you're on my time
You're on my time
I'll be alright
When you're on my time
The lyrics of The Futures' "Kiss and Say Goodbye" delve into the complexities of love and longing, as well as the uncertainty and desperation that can accompany these emotions. The singer seems to be grappling with the passage of time, using symbolic gestures such as smoking cigarettes and staying up late as a way to cope with the absence of their partner. These actions serve as a ritual of connection, a way to bridge the physical and emotional distance between them.
The repeated motifs of saying "Goodnight" and "Good morning" highlight the cyclical nature of their relationship, as well as the bittersweet moments shared in the quiet hours of dawn and dusk. The lyrics convey a sense of yearning for closeness and intimacy, a desire to express love and affection before the inevitable separation that comes with the night.
There is a sense of resignation and longing in the singer's voice as they question why they continue to try and hold on, even when faced with the inevitability of saying goodbye. The longing for their partner's presence is palpable, as they struggle to make sense of a world that feels incomplete without them.
The repeated refrain of "You're on my time" captures the essence of the song, as the singer seeks solace in the moments shared with their loved one, cherishing the time they have together while grappling with the reality of their eventual parting. The lyrics paint a poignant picture of love, loss, and the delicate balance between holding on and letting go, ultimately conveying a sense of hope and resilience in the face of separation.
