Joy in the Morning
The Gaylads Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You bring I joy in the morning
You bring I joy in the morning

The evening sun went down
All over town
I'm sitting all alone
Feeling so blue, just because
You bring I joy in the morning
You bring I joy in the morning

Every now and then
I wonder why
Why should I be so bad
Why not play it cool, (by the rules)

You bring I joy in the morning
You bring I joy in the morning

And every now and then
I wonder why
Why should I be so bad
Why not play it cool, (by the rules)

You bring I joy in the morning
You bring I joy in the morning

Overall Meaning

The Gaylads' song "Joy in the Morning" is a classic love song that expresses the joy and happiness that love can bring even during the toughest times. The chorus ("You bring I joy in the morning") is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the central message of the song. The song starts by describing a lonely and sad evening, with the sun going down all over town and the singer sitting alone feeling blue. However, the mood changes as the singer thinks about the person they love and how that person brings them joy in the morning.

In the second verse, the singer reflects on their own behavior and wonders why they sometimes act badly and don't play it cool by the rules. This self-reflection is likely motivated by the desire to be with the person they love and to maintain their relationship. The repetition of this verse and the chorus reinforces the idea that love and the joy it brings are worth reflecting on and fighting for. The Gaylads' harmonious and soulful singing, coupled with the simple yet profound lyrics, create a memorable and timeless love song.

These were the days when we had good singers in Jamaica. The 60s era when you had to have good harmonising voice to enter a recording studio. Big up BB Seaton. I was around 6or 7years then but I grew up living with this group with songs like My Jamaican girl etc.

Wow Maureen Simpson ! You mentioned My Jamaican Girl by the Legendary Gaylads ! That great tune on the Summit label subsidiary label of Beverleys recording label from 1971 was one of my dear Dad's favourite records . Best wishes Domino 😎🎲🎲

Great tune. My classmate at Rollington Town Primary would come to school and it would be all "BiBi (BB) say dis," and "BiBi do dat", because he lived in the Lineral Street area where the group lived and rehearsed.
