@The Gaming Specialist I’m late to this, idk if I can offer any insight but I hold a couple similar disorders to violent stalkers. I’m self taught in therapy so the introspection may help.
The only thing that stopped me from becoming someone like that was my knowledge, and drugs. Drugs replaced companionship and were much more satisfying. But most importantly I specifically remember telling myself that I’d kill a stalker of someone I love, so I never did it. I’d take the pain out on myself instead.
There’s a few answers for your question about incentive... one of the most dangerous, pain. When you build up someone to uphold a grandiose identity, you start to believe they will fill the void. Your love isn’t greed or lust, it’s your everything. It’s medicine that you conclude to solve everything. And people don’t realise, it HURTS on a crazy scale. You’re left with two options to cope with the pain, violence or suicide. Notice how every stalker is in love as well as violent: all they want is love, but if they can’t get it they feel betrayed. Understand that this all makes logical sense to a stalker; they’ve been betrayed by something that doesn’t exist in the first place and the pain is comparable to grief. From first hand experience, you can justify killing them, because you begin to believe they’ve caused you this huge amount of suffering and don’t care. That’s the most important point: they don’t care. They think you’re a loser.
And that is where it becomes fatal. Now the stalker believes you’re not only causing them pain, but mocking them too, while enjoying life in a relationship or having casual sex. The mentality is basically to bring you down with them. They intend on killing themselves, but they want to kill you first. They will still swing from one extreme to another, they will apologise and declare love but when it’s not received “idealistically” it turns violent again. In fact that relates to one of the morals I came up with myself and I’m still committed to death for it: apologise because you are sorry, not because you expect a certain resolution. It shouldn’t matter to you whether they forgive you, ignore you, slander you etc. because you are remorseful. Don’t apologise and expect a positive reaction. Apologise because you feel it’s the right thing to do.
Regarding the pain thing: pain will always be the strongest form of torture. The reason people believe otherwise is because they forget just how painful torture is. In fact it was drug withdrawal that made me not care anymore about rejection from anyone, because it was so bad. The scary thing is, it still wasn’t worth it, drug withdrawal was that terrible.
And most importantly: do not take an online stalkers threats seriously. They are cowards, and if you offered them a chance at love they’d become your personal slave. Their threats are extreme because they want to be significant to you, and make you think that the only way to relieve their torment is by giving them a chance (it’s hard to understand but trust me). Even the most violent stalkers are socially awkward and inept when confronted, still getting butterflies when they get attention from the streamer. They need the rush. Positive or negative.
