Take Off
The Grammers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey man are you still breathing
Pressure feels heavy on your chest
Every day you tried your best
Still your life turned to a mess
Hey man are you dragging yourself down

The tiny hours turn to years
It didn't mean much then but now it's everything

Hey man I'm trying to shape up for the take off
I won't have to take the easy way out
Hey man I'm trying to shape up for the take off
We will push though and that's what it's all about

Hey man standing in the shadow
In the dark you curse your own name
On your heart you held a gun
When all went wrong and it all begun
Was there any hope left for you

Don't you lose self control
It's so easy when the world seems so cold

Hey man I'm trying to shape up for the take off
I won't have to take the easy way out

Hey man I'm trying to shape up for the take off
We will push though and that's what it's all about

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Take Off" by The Grammers speak to the struggle of a person who is feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders. The song begins by inquiring if the person is still breathing, suggesting that the pressure they are feeling is overwhelming and suffocating. Despite their best efforts and daily attempts to improve their life, it has still spiraled into a mess. The repeated question of "Hey man, are you dragging yourself down?" emphasizes the internal struggle and the feeling of being trapped in a negative cycle.

The second verse delves deeper into the emotional turmoil being experienced. The lyrics describe the passing of time, likening it to hours turning into years. Initially, these moments might not have held much significance, but now they have become everything. This could imply that the person's past actions and choices have caught up with them, amplifying their current struggles and making it difficult to find hope.

The chorus serves as an anthem of resilience and determination. It acknowledges the hardships faced but affirms the desire to overcome them. The singer declares that they are trying to shape up for the takeoff, implying a metaphorical journey towards improvement and success. They refuse to take the easy way out and are committed to pushing through their challenges. Ultimately, the song conveys the message that despite the darkness and personal battles, there is still hope for a better future.

every time i hear this song or see quavo and think about how much pain he’s going through and the video of takeoffs death i can’t help but cry man. We lost a legend, in and outside of music. a rare genuine good hearted person in this world full of people who aren’t. I pray that God be with Quavo and Takes mom and family and close friends. I pray that he gives them the strength. I know Take is at peace in a better place now. Legends NEVER die🖤🕊.
