Day of the Lady
The Greatest Show on Earth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looks at the past
And remembers the last time
The ladies were ladies and lovers were true
Looking her best in her crinoline dress
For the people who cared threw a pound
Kindly old lady she passes a lamp
When she sees her reflection of carriage in black
Then in these waltzes and riding white horses
The day of the lady was here

Through the recalling she has longed in calling
For days of diamonds and lace
Victorian springs nights,
banquets by gas light
Now neon light shine on her face
Kindly old lady she passes a lamp
When she sees her reflection of carriage in black
Then in these waltzes and riding white horses
The day of the lady was here

Roaming the years with occasional tears
For the happiness rust in the past
Recollections of past time connections
And memories fade away fast
Kindly old lady she passes a lamp
When she sees her reflection of carriage in black
Then in these waltzes and riding white horses
The day of the lady was here

Kindly old lady she passes a lamp
When she sees her reflection of carriage in black
Then in these waltzes and riding white horses

The day of the lady was here
Day of the lady was here

Overall Meaning

The song "Day of the Lady" by The Greatest Show on Earth is about a woman who looks back on the past with fondness for the days when women were considered ladies, and love was pure. She remembers dressing in crinoline dresses and the people who cared for her. She longs for the days of diamonds and lace, Victorian spring nights, and banquets lit by gaslight. Now, she is surrounded by neon lights, as time changes and memories fade away quickly.

The woman's old age is evident in the lyrics as she roams the years with occasional tears while remembering the happiness she experienced in the past. She reflects on the connections she made during her time as a lady, and the memories of those times are fading away. The lyrics of the song signify the emotions of nostalgia and longing to experience the old days again.

The song paints a vivid picture of a kind old lady, passing a lamp and looking at her reflection in a black carriage. Then, the scene switches to waltzes and white horses, which represent the day of the lady. The day of the lady is here, as the song title suggests.

Esta bueniísima, saludos desde México y de alguien que nació en la decada equivocada, que aunque lel disco salió a principios de los 70´s, tiene toda la influencia sesentera. No cabe duda, los mejores coches y las mejores canciones son de los 60´s.
