Saying Goodbye
The Greenhornes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's nearly gone
How did it get so bad so quickly?
It just seems wrong
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
You'd be right
In the moment, I'll be leaving you behind
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
Take a step aside and look what we've become
It's so very far from where we had begun
Baby, our love is disappearing
It's nearly gone
How did it get so bad so quickly?
It just seems wrong
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
I'm saying goodbye
The Greenhornes's song Saying Goodbye describes the end of a relationship that has been eroding away. The lyrics express the sudden realization that the love between two people is disappearing and the pain that arises from it. The singer acknowledges that the relationship has changed from what it once was, and that it is time to say goodbye. The lyrics express the sadness and confusion that come with the end of a relationship and the realization that something important has been lost.
The lyrics are simple but poignant, and the repetition of the line "I'm saying goodbye" emphasizes the finality of the decision. The singer is not only saying goodbye to the relationship, but also to the person they once loved. They are taking a step back and looking at the relationship from a distance, seeing what it has become and realizing that it is far from where it began.
Overall, Saying Goodbye is a powerful expression of the pain and sadness that accompany the end of a relationship. The lyrics convey a sense of loss and helplessness, but also a sense of acceptance that sometimes, letting go is the right thing to do.

I agree, he is one of the best out there these days. I saw him with The Raconteurs right before Covid came and turned the world upside down. The whole band was awesome.

@sicknessguitar87 Yep, they're very unknown. I'm surprised at the fact that they aren't at least familiar to some people considering they used to tour with The White Stripes and the bassist Jack Lawrence and the Drummer, Patrick Keeler were with The Raconteurs. And those bands were somewhat famous.
