The Dream
The HALF Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was jolted awake by the brightness of the morning
Make no mistake it struck me without warning
You were there beside the window with your hand up on the sill
The look of love was in your eyes and what you said is with me still
We must dream as one
We must scream as one
We must cream as one
Well I felt more awake from the brightness of your aura
I thought that shit was fake but I swear I really saw it
The colour scheme was pink and purple and other colours still
Just cause you ain't never seen it that don't mean you never will
We must dream as one
We must scream as one
We must cream as one
We must
We must
We we we we we we we we we
We must dream as one
We must scream as one
We must cream as one
Well I've made some mistakes in the making of this moment
But I know what it takes to shit the bed and really own it
Cause nothing really matters and love and death are free
The more I look for love the more that love it looks for me
We must dream as one

We must scream as one
We must cream as one

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The HALF's song "The Dream" depict a surreal and transformative experience. The song begins with the singer abruptly waking up, surprised by the brightness of the morning. This unexpected awakening symbolizes a significant shift in their perception and consciousness. They notice someone they deeply care about standing by the window, their hand resting on the sill. In that moment, the person's eyes are filled with love, and they say something meaningful that lingers in the singer's memory.

The chorus emphasizes the importance of unity and shared experiences. "We must dream as one, we must scream as one, we must cream as one" suggests that true connection and understanding can only be achieved when individuals come together and express their true selves. The use of the word "cream" is most likely a metaphor for reaching a heightened state of ecstasy or emotional release.

As the song progresses, the singer describes feeling more awake from the radiant aura emanating from the loved one. They admit doubting the authenticity of the experience initially but affirm their genuine perception of it. The colors they see in this enhanced reality are vivid and abundant, including pink, purple, and other intriguing hues. The lyrics imply that just because something is unseen or unfamiliar to one person doesn't mean it doesn't exist or cannot be experienced.

In the final verse, the singer reflects on their own mistakes and acknowledges the importance of taking responsibility for them. They note that in the grand scheme of things, nothing truly matters except love and death, both of which are universal and transcendental. The search for love, love that reciprocates and seeks them in return, becomes a profound journey. The more they actively seek love, the more they discover that love also searches for them.

"The Dream" by The HALF is a song that encourages embracing shared experiences and finding unity in love and self-expression. It highlights the transformative power of connection and the significance of owning one's mistakes. The lyrics also explore the idea that reality can expand and become more vibrant if one is open to new experiences and perceptions.

Ive been listening to Shah for nearly almost 3 years... I love his music....

@abelguerrero7505

I just discovered his music, dark ages has been on repeat

@theucheao

@Abel Guerrero :) That’s how it begins; you will enjoy all of his discography. More than me too cause I started listening to Aaryan in 2021 when Dark Ages was his most recent album. And then he started beginning doing stuff with the Codex Trilogy. I feel so happy for you

@theucheao

I’ve heard about him long ago when he was still wearing his mask but I put him off due to my massive Weeknd obsession, thinking he was a Weeknd copy. Completely forgot about him. 2021, I’m trying to make a night time vibe playlist and Spotify randomly shuffles me Demon Time. That song hit in all the right ways and paved the road down Aaryan’s entire discography from beginning to end. Now he’s been with me in most darkest times; this album basically narrated this February for me and a lot of my pain and stress this year.

Nobody knew, one day a masterpiece will be shoot here. Aaryan Shah, a piece of art.

@theucheao

HOW DOES YOUR MUSIC RELATE TO ME SO FUCKING MUCH. I WAS LITERALLY ON THE METRA TRAIN FOR THE FIRST TIME ALONE WHILE LISTENING TO THIS AS IT CAME OUT. PROSPER AARYAN SHAH PROSPER. YOU ARE MY TRILOGY WEEKND VIBE CAUSE ABEL DOESNT HIT ME THAT WAY ANYMORE.
