History
Shawn Hall and Matthew Rogers first met by chance at a jingle recording session in 2006. Prior to the band, Hall worked for CityTV and Rogers worked (and continues to work) as film composer. They discovered they had a mutual affinity for a multitude of musical genres, but mainly folk and blues.
The band began as a folk duo and their sound continued to evolve into a bigger, more electric sound. Their working relationship was built from their similarities but also their dissimilarities. Both agree that the friction resulting from their different musical tastes is both a frustrating but fruitful part of their creative process.
They have had their songs featured on television shows such as CSI, NCIS New Orleans, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, and the aptly-named TV movie Lizzie Borden Took An Axe. The duo has no plans to slow down. They are on a continuing journey, constantly finding inspiration from musicians they meet or collaborate with. These encounters challenge them to deepen their songwriting and to keep performing with their trademark fervor and authenticity.

Tea For Two
The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm drinking alone in the afternoon.
Oh my god
I would trade it all for some tea for two.
Baby lets forget the day,
Sneak off into the night,
Lose ourselves in the mystic neon light.
Let's cut it off with a knife
And lose ourselves in the pale fountain of youth tonight.
Oh my love
The Rodeo's all tangled up in blue.
Oh my god
Your Romeo's lost in a cowboy tune.
Baby lets forget the day,
Sneak off into the night,
Lose ourselves in the mystic neon light.
Baby forget the pain,
Let's cut it off with a knife
And lose ourselves in the pale fountain of youth tonight.
Falling, falling, falling...
Some blind god
Said love isn't all that you've got to lose.
Some blind love
Is blind as a bat setting for the moon.
Baby lets forget the day,
Sneak off into the night,
Lose ourselves in the mystic neon light.
Baby forget the pain,
Let's cut it off with a knife
And lose ourselves in the pale fountain of youth tonight.
The lyrics of "Tea for Two" by The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer are brimmed with emotive and passionate expressions. The song talks about the hard day's work and the overwhelming feeling of wanting to escape it all. The singer expresses his yearning for some alone time while drinking alone in the afternoon. He then expresses his desire to have some tea for two. This particular line could be interpreted as a longing for the company of someone close to share the moment with. The chorus is a plea to forget the day's pain and cut it off with a knife, so that they can lose themselves in the mystic neon light, thereby giving the listener an impression of escapism.
The singer then refers to the Rodeo, which could be a reference to a wild time or party, and how it has all become a tangled mess, indicating an unfulfilling life. He also talks about Your Romeo's losing themselves in a cowboy tune, perhaps indicating that the singer finds it unfulfilling or overly cliche. The singer then refers to falling repeatedly, alluding to the idea that they are losing themselves to this cycle of unfulfilling work and life.
Overall, the song could be interpreted as a way of escaping the mundane, and exploring the mystic and youthful side of life. The lyrics express the idea that life is too difficult to appreciate without a moment of escapism away from societal expectations.
