Come, they told me pa-rum pum pum pum
Our newborn King to see, pa-rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring pa-rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King pa-rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him pa-rum pum pum pum
When we come
Baby Gesu pa-rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa-rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring pa-rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our King pa- rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you, pa-rum pum pum pum
On my drum?

Mary nodded pa-rum pum pum pum
The Ox and Lamb kept time pa-rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him pa-rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him pa -rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum (pa -rum pum pum pum)

Then He smiled at me pa-rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Little Drummer Boy narrate the story of a young boy who accompanies the Wise Men to visit the newborn Baby Jesus. The song starts with the boy being told to come along with the Magi to see the new king. He is instructed to bring fine gifts to lay before the King. The chorus "pa-rum pum pum pum" is a rhythmic drum beat made by the boy's drum. The song then takes on a more personal note when the boy states that he is a poor boy and has no gift to offer to the King that is fit for Him.

The boy then suggests playing his drum for the Baby Jesus as a gift. Mary nods her approval, and the boy proceeds to play his drum. Interestingly, the animals present at the manger, the Ox, and the Lamb, keep time with the boy's drumming. The last verse is the most moving, where the boy says, "I played my best for Him." The final line is particularly poignant where the boy says, "Then He smiled at me," implying that the humble gesture of playing the drum for Jesus was appreciated and recognized by Him.

Overall, the lyrics of The Little Drummer Boy present a message of giving and humility. The boy, who had nothing material to offer, gave his best in the form of the drumming, and it was accepted and appreciated by Jesus. It shows that one need not have great wealth or resources to give something valuable to others.

I believe this to be the best, most humble Godly rendition of the song "Little Drummer Boy"---very very powerful. There are many other versions sung by other choirs and singing artists, but none come close to the way the Harry Simeone Choir performs it. I hear many other newer versions of the song over the radio stations, and none sound or are performed as good and as heavenly divine as this one does. Merry Christmas and God bless you all and your families. Mark Luke 2: 8-20 John 3:3

another man recorded it with the same choir..so there you go

@livelifeincolour

Completely agree with you!... My grandmother had a record of it and it just stuck with me all these years as the best version.

You are right, this version sounds spiritually inspiring.
