Bu-you-t I still have your love to remember you by
Oh, my dar-are-are-arling, dry your eyes
Daddy's coming home soon
On my knees every day-ay
All I do is pray, baby, just for you
Hope you a-a-a-always want me too
It may be on a Sunday morning
It may be on a Tuesday afternoon
But no matter what the day is
I'm going to make it my business to get home soon
You're (a thousand miles away)
Bu-you-ut I still have your love to remember you by
Oh, my dar-are-are-arling, dry your eyes
Daddy's coming ho-ome so-oo-on
The Heartbeats' classic doo-wop tune, A Thousand Miles Away, tells a story of a lover who is separated from his significant other by distance. The singer sings about being a thousand miles away from his lover, but he still has her love to hold onto. He reassures her that he will come back home to her soon, bringing comfort to her worries.
The adoration between the singer and his lover is palpable in the lyrics. He promises to come home to her no matter what day it is, and that he thinks about her every day. The sentiment is highlighted further when he implores her to keep wanting him too. The words "Oh, my darling, dry your eyes" stand out as the singer's loving way to reassure his beloved in his absence.
The theme of separation and longing is a common one in early rock and roll songs, but A Thousand Miles Away stands out with its simple, catchy melody and heartwarming lyrics. The setting of the song is a timeless one, and the tune's popularity has endured for over half a century.

2019 - My grandpa has a hearing problem and he couldn't explain this song or the name and he sang one line from it so I looked up "1000 miles away" which of course a million songs popped up. When I finally found the one he was talking about, which was this one. HE WAS SO RELIEVED and he cried his eyes out and sang the loudest he could. This song took him back to when he was a teenager. Everytime i play it in his car he sings like there's NO TOMORROW. โค
